This was an enlightening read. Very elaborate on the IP and IJ differences. I came out low on my test for the 'J' but according to this article I'm IJ all the way. To a tee. Thank you for posting.

Fun fact: The people who do things on the internet are also human beings in real life too. When I'm typing this message, I am sitting on my bed (like a real human) and drinking tea (like a real human) and talking to my boyfriend and one of my friends (like a real human). Things that you say and do online have consequences in your daily life. So yeah, this is real life.

We (including those few of us who don't drink at all) were required to complete a few hours of alcohol education courses before moving in and a few months after classes started. So yes, they know.

You're right to criticize the absolutist wording, and I am not a fan of similarminds myself so I can't come to its defense.

Ok I'm off -- interesting discussion!

These last results are from similarminds?

In general, I am more interested in Nardi's work because I think he is trying to apply some science to his methods, but would like to explore the ways in which his current tests might be improved.

That's a pretty good way of putting it.

In fact, I think we just demonstrated your point in this conversation. I saw a conclusion (the test results) and hypothesized some possibilities to improve it; you concretized some of these possibilities into conclusions (specifying eg a way to make questions more first-person identifiable).

Another example: you saw many possible ways of describing the Ne-Ni differences, and found a concrete description that captures the differences well. I saw your description, and found ways to theorize how our behavior fits the patterns described.

Re: Ne, it's more about finding the inter-relational patterns. Ni is more about picking a thread and inventing/imagining its continuity, whereas Ne is more about inventing/imagining new outer bounds for the ball of yarn.

Your perspective is interesting because I find Ne and Ni so closely related that I have a hard time distinguishing between the two in practice. The conceptual differences are clear -- Ni is intra-relational whereas Ne is inter-relational. But in practice I find it natural to predict future patterns, something that is supposedly an Ni specialty.

You are right that we would still need to correct the auxiliary and tertiary functions, thus rendering the TiNeSiFe result. I agree that it's a lot of ex post reasoning just to get to a congruent answer (though I think I will cling to this general hypothesis until I find a better one, while keeping track of exceptions such as the present case).

I think you bring up some very interesting points that had not occurred to me. As an Fi user I am indeed offended by Fe; I don't mind when people show genuine emotion but Fe-dom insistence on dogmatic adherence to social norms for no greater purpose offends me to no end. Perhaps the test could focus more on how each first-person perspective perceives other functions.

There would still be residual difficulties in separating "e" and "i" orientations. For example, a negative answer to "can you look at a magazine and appreciate what it is showing you at face value?" could be indicative of either Ni or Ne usage.

Nope, here's how it would work:

Your weakest function is Fe (2.2); take its inverse and you have a Ti dom, with an intuitive auxiliary function.

The better (or more interesting) question is how to improve the test (Te). What wording in particular did you find inaccurate/misleading? How would you devise a more accurate cognitive functions test? Why is it that most results appear to show some kind of anomaly, and is there a pattern across these anomalies? You already pointed at one -- the Te questions do not appeal to you. They do not appeal to me either, and I found that strange since I LOVE using Te. But some other users on this forum came out with a strong Te usage. I am investigating to try to reconcile these discrepancies.

Hahaha I think I need more context on the Bruce Lee thing, but I'm amused.

Don't get me wrong, you know yourself best and I am not suggesting I have any evidence that you could be a Ti dom. I was testing a hypothesis and trying to figure out whether it worked. If you look at the Nardi responses in the forum (unfortunately scattered across threads) it seems there could be a pattern emerging: the weakest function is the 4th, its inverse is the dominant, and the 8th function (if you believe in such things) is anomalously high in the results.

PS: would be curious to know what you think about this. Apparently, there is a theory suggesting that our 8th functions are apparently strong, whereas our 4th functions are weak. This would be consistent with a hypothetical INTP having a strong Fi result but a weak Fe.
  16. Enfpbutterfly
9272, is there a chance you might be a Ti dom? I am trying to understand the results of the Nardi test but the sample size is too small; however, the hypothesis I am testing is that perhaps it is best to look at the weakest function in the results and label that as your 4th. From there, determine your first function, and notice that the 8th function will look like an anomalous "odd man out" that doesn't quite fit with the other results. This is the pattern I seem to detect so far, but your results and laoshi's suggest the hypothesis might be wrong. The test probably needs to be adjusted, but I'd like to see if there is a pattern to any potential bias in the results it delivers.

I think the reason she hasn't found love here is because she's railing against her sisters for being cliquish at best and being social retards at worst...
