Because it can allow you to be stronger, faster, and more preceptive than competitors who are naturally better provided than you.

Do you expect an intelligent answer?

If it lets you see a good way forward it helps you be effective.

If it lets you see too many ways forward it may impede your efficiency.

If you are intelligent, but lack the means to use it like a vegetable, it is pointless.

Perhaps it is a simplistic picture, but my answer is: It depends.

If you say "evolutionary" then google for "Darwin Awards" ... nice stories of people who removed themselves from the gene pool through stupidity

We may be the only species that understands how to do advance planning, know its value, and consider alternatives.

The jury is still out on cetaceans.

It is what you make of it. Some objectively intelligence people do not use it well-enough to their advantage.

Power is having options. All else equal, the intelligent have more options, therefore more power, than the unintelligent.

I made a typo and meant to put intelligent and instead put intelligence. And then it was quoted, for posterity. Not even an edit can save me. I'm weeping a tear.

I have heard the phrase "too smart for his/ her own good" spoken once in a while. Not certain what the phrase's full meaning is, but it seems to be imbued with a judgment on a person's short-sightedness. The idea of "short-term (significant) gain, long term (significant) loss".

On the contrary right? You can compensate for not being as strong, fast nor perceptive. It gives you the chance to compete when the odds are against you.

This would be a great question to ask Elon Musk and other tech giants.

By enabling humans and their ancestors to exploit diverse resources to a far greater extent than almost any other creature, ever.

G is the best predictor of life success (followed at yelling distance by conscientiousness).

Life success as define by educational and career achievement?  That might be a factor in evolution if higher success rates translated to having higher numbers of viable offspring.

 Evolution revolves around gene passing.

more intelligent and more likely to thrive? Not only better genes(fittest)but also be able to survive well.
