  2. Pretty much. I give that advice not because it is going to make things go your way, but just to get actual results. INTP's are deemed the "absent-minded professor" type for a reason; if you attempt to pull the usual bullshit of sending subtle signals, he will either not notice or even if he does, a passive signal is just another excuse to stall further. Depending upon the INTP in question, he may stall endlessly. Save yourselves both a lot of time and get straight to the point. Lastly, before I head out, I wouldn't be too surprised if he is just taking interest for the sake of interest. The way I entertain myself when socializing is by getting reactions out of people. The more interesting the person, the more motivated I am to get a reaction. It doesn't mean anything other than my own selfish entertainment. It does sound like there could be something more with how he is being awkward with his eyes and what not, but again, don't be surprised if you are reading too far into it. INTP's are odd, and sometimes odd behavior is just... INTP's being INTP.
  3. The only thing I will say is I have told a friend that we were just friends, and she tortured herself for nearly 2 years straight trying to win me over. Sure, she played it cool, said it was "fine" and we could be friends, but I could always tell she wasn't content at just that. Moral of the story: If an INTP makes his mind up about something, it is usually set in stone. This is like the entire reason why we stall on every decision we make, because in our minds once we decide, it is hard for us to turn back. I don't know what your potential INTP is thinking, but I will tell you not to waste your time hoping for something that may not happen. As with all my answers regarding INTP's: If you really want to know, just be direct. It really is the best way with INTP's. For example if you really want to know just how committed he is to his gal, flat-out ask him.
  4. I don't see the connection. I'm assuming it has something to do with your rant a few posts up. If you are asking me whether it is beneficial to teach something to someone even though they are not going to use it, my previous post implied my answer at least as far as general schooling. Besides, your following reply is pretty much in agreement. If the masses are not interested in learning for the sake of learning, you give them a nudge. i.e., public education based around teaching the masses. If this thread was about college, I'd be in agreement with the general point of not wasting time teaching something someone doesn't need or want or will even use at all. Hence why college is voluntary. I actually wish there was less of a push to quickly send everyone off to college as the "right thing to do", as I think it results in a lot of college debt which could have been better spent elsewhere. But high school? Nah. For starters, the brain is still developing and some subjects just cannot be taught earlier than they are. Algebra for example. And unlike calculus, basic algebra does get used often by many people. There are also many subjects which require a foundation and the knowledge is added in layers, and there is simply the time factor. There is also a point in that some skills can be transferred to other areas not directly connected. As for "extinguishing the flame", I think that has more to do with how some subjects are taught. For example I never took an appreciation for history in school. It wasn't until much later I started to take interest. Why? Well, all my history classes consisted of droning on about this date and the name of this person and none of it was relevant to anything, just random numbers and names to memorize for the test. It wasn't until I started to learn "why" events took place in history where I took interest. And yes, even if I had to pick it up later, I do find it useful for my general knowledge and well-being. It helps put many modern issues into perspective, and helps think about current events in what is actually taking place, not just what mainstream media is telling you (*cough* mindless zombie *cough*). I would love to go back in time to high school and have history taught in a way where it would have sparked my interest earlier.
  5. I don't really like breaking that down only into two groups. I can think of a few more off the top of my head, and no doubt some forumite with enough free time could come up with a huge list. For example, why can't a guy just naturally keep sex as something for later; if he isn't sexually aggressive why must it be that he is "scared" of sexuality? Or, why can't a guy genuinely be sexually aggressive and care about a person? Not me, but reminds me of a roommate. Sex is always on the forefront of his mind with any kind of interaction with women, but in no way would I say he doesn't care. He doesn't lie, he doesn't play games, doesn't cheat. He just places sex as a high priority.

  7. Pretty sure location can play a big part. I am deep into Bible country where I currently live, and dating sucks because there is like maybe 1 out of 10 people I meet who isn't a religious freak. Now if I lived about an hour north of here, perhaps it would suck less. Larger city, more people, more types of people. I know, "why not just go there to date?!". Dating from a distance brings its own challenges. And even if I am willing to travel a distance, the other person involved needs to be okay with it to.
  8. The majority of us can float through life with a middle school education. Does that mean you want a world full of middle-school educated people? Well, maybe you do, I don't.
  9. What a disgusting article. Less about men/women, more on the point of classism. If a woman (or man) with a liberal arts degree looks down on a machinist/welder with zero college debt as "marrying down", they have issues. Google search "average college graduate salary" and "average welder salary". And no, I'm not a welder :) Just making a point about how brain-washed society is when it comes to what a "college education" actually means.
  10. Yep, straight forward and direct. INTP's can be overly formal with someone they like. If I had to give a reason why, probably stems from a combination of our fear of failure and when given a choice... choose to stall. In other words, yes, he is probably in to you. You can either wait until the end of time for him to make a move, or he may be the rare outlier INTP who will actually do so himself. Really though, it would save both of you a tremendous amount of time if you just broke the ice yourself.
  11. I watch Starcraft 2 Proleague and Starleague. Sometimes Let's Plays of games I may want to purchase, or want to see what is and definitely don't want to purchase (get to see game without paying).

  13. TBH this whole idea was bound to come, in one form or another. You cannot have social movement changes by women and not expect men to need to change themselves. The only reason it is taking this long, is because it is also a traditional idea that men just "put up with shit". As can be seen in this thread, or anywhere else a similar conversation of MGTOW would take place: Men are just butthurt, man-up, stop being a bitch, etc. etc. etc. Even if there is a clear, logical point, it must be "butthurt". Oh come now, everyone wants their own special awareness day, a time to shine in the spotlight. You ask a simple question, but that same simple question can be easily applied to a large number of groups voicing how much of a special snowflake they are.
  14. It is enough. Not only have conversations been broken down like this, but novels have been broken down in a similar manner, with the large majority of words only consisting of a small sub-set. You may not know the word for stick, but you can ask a native speaker with enough supporting words for what a stick is called. If you cannot put together a sentence to ask what a stick is called, then I question just what 3,000 words you actually learned. And you have also pinpointed the flaw in traditional classes. You do well in "workbooks" and such, because it is focused on one extremely small area short term. It is very much how the joke goes, about studying for a quiz that morning and then forgetting it all by the afternoon. A lot of students make their way through school and college this way, because that is all required. I think the most important part of learning a language is committing the long-term memory. 3,000 words may be enough as a base, but it doesn't do much if you cannot recall all 3,000 instantly, and especially if you cannot do so in sentence form (including through speech). Thus, IMO it is more important to get constant exposure to this smaller set of vocabulary in regular conversation form than any other kind of studying. You need that constant bombardment of the language being used, the common words being combined in various ways repeatedly. Memorizing vocab lists and verb conjugation is not enough. It is broken apart, so even if you memorize, the skill to combine the words together fluently isn't there. If I had to give a percentage, I'd probably go with something like 20% traditional study and 80% immersion through various sources. I think it really is that important, to get that consistent immersion, else the 20% traditional study isn't doing much. I'd even go 90/10 if you were fully immersed in the language, but as adults learning a secondary language often far away from where said language is used, we just don't have the same resources. Even with the internet. 4 year olds learn so well, because they can follow their mother around and ask "why why why". Unless you have the ability to pester native speakers, you will probably need a bit more of the traditional study to supplement.
