i have enjoyed Carlos' music since mebbe the 60s...i have listened to him grow. and it has been a very rewarding process...and now i find...this:
Carlos Santana interview, 'Guitar Player', Dec. 2008, page 98: Q. 'Could you elaborate on what you mean by saying 'your fear has betrayed you'?' A. 'Fear only has one agenda-to negate beauty and your truth. Ego only has one agenda-to create death, destruction and failure. That's the only function of ego. We should compliment it, because at least it's predictable. E-g-o stands for 'Etch God Out'. But even an atheist can understand the need for wonderment. You don't have to believe in God. God believes in you. God could not care less if you call him Buddha, Allah, Jesus or Krishna. The best part of you-that's what God is, and it is in all of us. It's called the spark of the divine. Do you remember the scene in '2001: A Space Odyssey' where the astronaut was being bombarded with all these colors? It's like some type of Coltrane solo, or Jimi whehn he's feeding back. That's what we call the stream of consciousness-which is actually the state of grace, because all is one and one is all. The mind is not equipped to understand that, because the mind likes to compartmentalize. The heart just takes it all in.' i can highly recommend the whole article, whether you are a musician, a wannabe like me, or don't play anything...this comes at a time for me when it is good to know that there are more 'Carlos' out there.... |

Thank you, reb. I couldn't agree more.
There are these magic moments when the hard work suddenly disappears. It's not even pleasure, it's.. nothing. You are not there for a moment. . Then as if you wake up. And see beautiful things that you have created, or you remember them, as from a dream. That is when your consciousness finally leaves it all to your instincts and they "know" what to do, much better than you. I think we have something self-controlling in us, that also protects the brilliance to sparkle. Some forced rationality that makes the self to feel naked and vulnerable, and won't let it shine, walking among new stars. The moments when we let ourselves be weak and unprotected are the moments of our true greatness. Almost nobody can exist in this state for long periods, which makes it even more precious. |

After reading the word 'God', I just couldn't take the rest of the article seriously. I physically couldn't; it all got blurry.
I'm outa here. |

There is something "special" about creativity, but as to its being divine I have my doubts. Beautiful words for beautiful sentiments, but beauty isn't necessarily truth.
...maybe I just haven't tried enough chemicals. |

lol! or the right ones? you shoulda seen the responses in 'Guitar Player'-one person whacked Carlos hard....i don't imagine Carlos cared... nihil, if Carlos wants to say 'there is a God', it don't mean there is one. if you say 'there is no God', that don't mean there aint one...''God word' turns me off so i can't see the rest of the message' has been an obstacle to thinking 'in whole' in my life....having a lot of emotionally charged words in ones head leads to so many things that 'don't work well', and shuts off looking at perceptions that are different, and might be valuable in the positive or the inverse. |
