Any millionaires in the house? Or just "financially independent?" Wouldn't surprise me to find a few in here!

How did you obtain your financial success and what is your advice for people who would like to achieve financial independence? (and we all know how important independence is to us

)

Are you slow and steady with investing or are you more risk-taking and adventurous?

What fields or occupations would you suggest going into: healthcare, technology, engineering, business?

While I'm far from millionaire status, I'm only 22 and typically work 60+ hrs a week and spend less than $10,000 dollars a year. I don't plan to retire when I'm 30...but it just seems logical to me that you should work more when you are young and have the energy and no responsibilities of children, spouse, etc.

Your thoughts?

Or perhaps a sizeable contribution to a lovely woman who will hide out in her house and not pick up the phone when you call?

I'm quite certain it was said in jest. Only on an INTJ forum would I have to point that out...

I am in that category. Doesn't mean much anymore.

"I am a great believer in luck and I find the harder I work the more I have of it."

One of my favorite quotes. I have been working since a wee lad, paperboy, janitor, repo man, bank teller, etc.

I tried to have balance in my life - the Greek thing. Got married early, 5 children, spent a lot of time in spiritual, physical and other pursuits.

A one dimensional approach is not a good idea, I don't think.

Picking something you love to do is the secret to success. It doesn't matter what it is - your passion will make it successful.

Sounds corny, but that's my take.

I have no idea but if anyone asks I'm going to tell them you started it.

edit: The only advice I have to the topic at hand is to avoid Boardwalk/Park Place like the plague. Buy cheap properties and work on getting a monopoly on the railroads and/or utilities.

Is this thread suitably fluffy for me to post in now?

On topic: get an education, work hard when you are young, do not go into debt (or if you do get out as fast as you can), make more than you spend, save it, and ta da... you have a million bucks.

When I am about 60 that scheme probably will have worked for me. Only inflation will make that worth about 200k comparatively lol.

A million bucks is very relative. My father and I are both professionals (albeit in different industries), but his income at my age was a good 25% of what mine currently is, in actual numbers.

Inflation will make us all rich in yesterday's dollars.

Waste of time usually if you are really going the all or nothing route. You will never be rich as an engineer or anything like that.

Hopefully, you are paid for all the hours you put in. Otherwise, you're making the wrong person rich.

A million dollars isn't what it use to be. It can easily be achieve with work, smart spending and a bit of luck.

Sure you can, you can be rich doing any professional career as long as you spend less than you earn and don't fall into the debt trap. You don't get rich quick though.

It's not a waste unless you have a better plan for your time. Starting a business is the best way to get rich, but it's difficult to do unless you have some money stashed away. I plan to do that soon.

Are you shallow?

That's not necessarily true. The personality traits which make a person attractive are often the same ones which enable them to achieve financial success.

Someday I will be financially secure. Until then I manage how I can, work hard as hell and keep my head above water. Also pray that the kids both get full rides to college!

I don't know if anyone else shares this point of view with me, but as far as life goes, money or even financial stability should be taking the backseat to something of interest. Recently, I've worked my first job in an office. In my observation, prolonged employment in such an environment is detrimental to a person's individuality. Even perhaps the most creative and cheerful being will become sullen and monotonous. That being said, I am clearer than ever about what my job prospects should be - even if it means that I get paid alot less, as long as I love what I'm doing, that is everything that matters.
