I used to believe I had social anxiety. But I don't. I just don't like loud, crowded places because I prefer quiet private places. It's not a disorder to have preferences. I like the thoughts in my own head and I don't enjoy situations that interrupt my enjoyment of said thoughts. I don't even like to go walking in a park with another person because they insist on chattering the whole way. No offence but your company is nowhere near as pleasant to me as my internal dialogue. |

This actually really made me feel better. It's not very often that I think someone has an intelligent point to be made. Thanks for the reminder that not everyone is a moron.

I too have social anxiety. When I was younger, it used to be very intense, but I've gotten better as I've aged. I still have huge difficulties public speaking, to the point where I asked my manager to give a recent presentation for me. It affects my life everyday to some extent. I also have difficulties going for lunch or coffee with work colleagues and I really have to work myself up to going to parties. I am very confident in my abilities and have difficulty making sense of my irrational fears. I've tried overcoming my issues with psychologists, but it hasn't worked.

My social anxiety seems to get worse as I get older. I used to have no problem being in a crowd, but now I can hardly stand it. I avoid going places alone as much as possible and avoid talking to people unless I know them. Basically I'm on a one way path to complete isolation. Which is good since my ultimate goal in life is to become a cat lady.
