There are girls in my office who have worn leggings as pants and I work in Finance.

But... Leggings ARE pants. I wear them most days, though I'd usually wear a long top to cover my ass, unless doing sport. I don't see the problem, unless you're talking about those people who wear leggings stretched so tight you can see through them :/

This thread makes me glad to be a home-worker. Pajamas all the way

Most workplaces don't even require them anymore. There's a guy over on another forum who wants to sleep in them.....

---------- Post added 06-18-2012 at 09:59 PM ----------

That's what I'm upset about... WHY are we being told or meant to think that we have to look like streetwalkers to make fucking $10 an hour pushing papers around and picking up phones when men don't look like this and get $60k a year....

Let's not forget that the woman in question has a bachelors or masters and the man only has a semester of college. The woman is paid less because she's not taken seriously...

---------- Post added 06-18-2012 at 10:01 PM ----------

Yes, I know the ones you mean. I call them bum-bum pants...

---------- Post added 06-18-2012 at 10:11 PM ----------

Yeah, that's not so far off from things I've worn in the past. I'm talking about girls whose skirts are SO SHORT they move just a little bit and I see their underwear- think the length of a unisex t-shirt... that's how long their dress or skirt is.

---------- Post added 06-18-2012 at 10:16 PM ----------

Like stand with your arms at your sides.... ABOVE where your wrists are. The girls at a local grocery store dress like that, too, and I finally got mad and told one of the girls she was dressed like a whore and the manager said, "oh, yeah!" with a big smile (mind you, I live in a somewhat religious neighborhood)

Lol,I have seen that before[male perspective] just scratching my head are you seriously going to work wearing that?

I was over in another section and commenting. I was thinking this deserves it's own discussion:

When women go to work, they should be going there TO WORK, not take sexual festishization to the max. High heels, short skirts and make up are SEXUAL!! Why the fuck do we call that "professional" attire and "presentable." There was a ditzy half naked Asian who went to Judge Judy's court like that to vouch for her brother. JJ asked her where the rest of her outfit was and she giggled all dummy sounding and said she thought she was dressed professionally. Burd-JJ's security guard-said something about "a different kind of profession." When I'm on the subway in the morning, I think most of the women look sooooo unprofessional. If they aren't dressed like a streetwalker, they are wearing flip flops to work. Please, oh puh-lease, someone explain to me how it's more "professional" to wear a business suit, flip flops and make up than no make up but wearing proper shoes. Oh and NYS actually has a law that you can't wear open-toed shoes in ANY workplace. It's considered unhygenic.

Are we in 2012 or 1812? Relax, no one is making you do it so leave other people alone who aren't hurting you. You sound hung up.

---------- Post added 06-19-2012 at 10:20 PM ----------

Oh yeah, I wear lovely dresses, great heels, make up, long hair and earn a fortune without fucking anyone. Bloody brilliant hey?

A man dressed up looks much more professional than a woman dressed up because the woman has sexualized herself. That is a big problem. Women want to be taken seriously but they dress like they want to be viewed as sex objects. If a woman wants to be respected for what she knows then she should stop focusing so much on what she looks like beyond simply being well groomed.

I watched that video. And it is, sadly, true.

Haha, fuck gender codes.

Why would a woman dress provocatively in the workplace?

It's something I've never been able to understand.

This made me laugh- I recall that exact episode. I find that women in suits look more professional than skank ass ho's like that girl, and all the others that take out loans to get breast augmentations prior to being sued.

Why would women dress like futzy old maids at work? Why would women dress like men at work? Why would women dress like anything, at anytime?

We all known women's bodies are just for men's pleasure anyway, why can't they just walk naked?

That is the real question.

Burkas would fix all the world's problems! So this is what Feminism fought for. The need to look like shit.

If there is such a thing as "dressing as woman" and "dressing as a man" then we should just go back to the 1950's.

I'd prefer we have the gender roles more codified.

I thought we were all supposed to be equal, but it's obvious that that isn't true from what the women are saying here. I thought the whole point was that there should just be one way to dress for everyone as equals.

I guess that's not what is wanted. Well, keep women in the home then, where are more properly dressed as women.

Men can keep to the office, where they can continue to dress as men.

I was just coming back to edit my post to "Why would a person dress provocatively in the workplace?"

Because I honestly don't know.

There is a middle ground between revealing/sexually charged and futzy old maids. Doesn't have to be one or the other. A woman can look perfectly stylish and well put together without being overtly sexual. I guess it's a skill.

When a person dresses provocatively I assume they are out to attract sexual attention. What is the alternative? Are they looking sexy for themselves? Do they like little peeks of their thighs or breasts? Do they like to see their pants or skirt plastered onto their ass?

Apart from raging autosexuality, what is the reasoning?

This video so far makes no sense to me.

An immense amount of flimsy rhetoric starts it off, but even if I grant that it's still odd.

The entire argument comes from advertising...does everyone live their lives according to ads??

Anyway, I have no problem with seeing men in the positions of the women. What was the problem supposed to be?...

And I stand with "bent knees" as my nature pose...hmm I guess I should stop standing like that. Didn't realize I was giving up my agency and signaling my helplessness...

More nonsense. Codified dressing like men, for both men and women.

Dressing professionally has a wide range where you have the prudish puritans on one side who align with the patriarchy for believing women must burka their way through life looking like sad sacks with comfortable shoes peeping out from below and then, you have the average real life office where people have relative freedom to dress within professional range and then you have the more extreme, fashion edged offices.

Also really weird, almost all of the images they cite are images from high fashion used to sell things to...other women...

Why are women buying into these images exactly? Apparently they are the main customers apparently?

I agree that women never have to "grow up" though. That shit should definitely change. hah

So treating them like sex objects is cool then?

What are you arguing against?

I'm arguing for freedom for women to dress as they choose within the corporate guidelines of acceptable attire.

You seem to be unable to even article a coherent stance on anything, every post of yours is basically flinging some kind of insult at someone from some emotional ideology that you yourself don't even seem to understand...

Then don't engage with me. Read your post. What you're advocating is that equality is geared on clothing and if we don't become androgynous in our outfits, we need to go back to 1950 gender roles? Like WTF?
