I think it's both ways, and entirely subjective to each individual. I do know a few "whites" who stereotype Asians, but being Asian myself, I do know that some of my friends think of "whites" as the American stereotype we see on tv. They think that the girls are either obsessed with boys or themselves and etc, and I don't know how true it is, but I think it doesn't apply to all or by race.

You can't really judge, but it's not stopping people anyway.

With many Asian cultures, it's 'buyer beware' instead of the Fed nannyism that exists in North America. If you don't haggle or haggle within the seller's parameters of acceptable, the seller will know you're not locally savvy so they'll charge what they can get away with.

This isn't in defense of the system since I personally hate haggling. Just a different view of your assumptions.

It happens vice-versa as well, in Australia you eat out at Chinese restaurants there is a 'white' (read: more expensive) menu and an 'asian' (read: cheaper) menu. Causasians get a lot more respect from other Asians in general, maybe because they are generally better looking and more cultured (well, not my friends anyway, they're pretty low brow like me haha...). Explains the Asian obsessions with kids learning piano and violin...

Haggling: The reason why I came away with nothing from Asian countries despite wanting to buy stuff. Local retailers have a right to profit, but charging 5x as much as the next person? No sale and no one wins.

And lets not forget that Japan = All of Asia.

Every culture (regardless of race) tends to be condescending in various ways towards members of other cultures. Just in case you haven't noticed. A chinese acquaintance of mine expressed the view that by and large Japanese people are viewed as pirates and the scum of the earth by the Chinese. So clearly it's not limited Asians and Caucasians.

Hey, I'm a Korean dude and I lived in Seoul for a long time and did a bunch of travelling in SE asia. There is sort of weird ethnic dynamic in East/SE Asia. There is certainly a perceived hierarchy of different ethnicities, and each view the others quite differently. But in general, most of the inter ethnic hatred falls against the japanese b/c historically they tried to take everyone over a bunch. For the most part, those sorts of feelings are my grandparents' generation, and our generation doesn't really care too much about that. I did date a japanese girl who told me that her grandparents did not approve of her dating a korean, which was awesome, b/c I had never been a bad boy or w/e.

It's funny how Asians in Asia will treat whites better than Asian born Americans.

This is very true as well. To my extended family in korea, my sister and I are definitely the black sheep of the family, and we're not necessarily ostracized, but there is a small social speedbump between us and them.

Re: Asian people @ white people
Meh, for the most part it's not a malicious thing. It's just sort of "lol you can't sit cross legged?" or "lol you can't use chopsticks?". Also we do kinda lol at the "white" chinese restaurants. Some Korean/Japanese parents don't like their kids dating white people though. Vacant Space is right though, there is definitely a desired paleness that I've noticed. In Korea they sell makeup with a small % of bleach to keep your skin white. B/c paleness is a sign of affluence or w/e (hey I don't have to work in the sun, look how pale i am). I always thought that was messed up.

I'm gonna guess them all halfbreeds, well mixed, and barely Filipino. Not that I'm complaining; but the pure bred Filipinos tend to have hard lumpy complexions. Most of the Filipino media stars have Chinese in them.

Halfbreeds is correct. Barely is inaccurate. What makes one a Filipino is not how soft or pale their complexion is, but how well they carry the culture and the traditions.

Negative. Saying so would actually mean you'd cluster Indonesians, Malaysians, Thais with the same "hard lumpy" complexions. Afterall, they're from the same race.

How did you know? Historically, Chinese migrated to their country and not the other way around since you claim Filipinos want Chinese blood them. Because of trade and commerce, interethnic marriages with and among Asian countries were inevitable since the earliest days (even before there was America!). Saying most Filipinos living in the cabeza/kabiseras have Spanish blood in them could have been true.

Let me guess, you pluck out your generalisation from a mere interaction with one or two Filipinos. 'grats.

I cant say for many reasons. First and foremost, my ownself transcends my bloodline. Secondly, I am half filipino and I grew up in America, so I could not speak for Asians, even if I wanted to. However, I will say this:

I find it completely inappropriate the way america portrays asians. In movies they are often featured as unimportant and incompetent people who speak english in a very thick accent and are used as comedic relief, or they are goofball socially inept nerds used as comedic relief. Jackie chan usually has these roles pounded down pretty well.

This observation does not have much of an impact on my life since I do not identify as belonging to any race, but this does not stop random people from reminding me that I look asian.

Definitely. I don't doubt that most people don't have an active racist opinion of asians, but the lack of Asian men in leading roles in media (particularly romantic leads) makes me wonder if this affects the subconscious opinions of non asians.

In japan they aren't particularly race sensitive for whatever reason.

In this ad you have white people with silly white noses, you might also see for instance a kids lunchbox in japan with a black man who is actually jet black with big red lips like some kind of cartoon from the 1800's. Google Mr.Popo, he's a black character from Dragonball Z, he looks just like that. If you were to have a lunchbox with a yellow, buck toothed, slit eyed asian man on it they wouldn't be offended, they just have a different way of thinking about that sort of thing. Japan has very interesting ways of thinking about most things lol.

There's a really surreal blog called Gaijin Smash that's written by a black american guy who teaches english in japan. He has basically developed a dodging reflex to counter all the scoolchildren that try and grab his dick as he walks down the hallway. Because they have heard that black men have big dicks they just reach out and see for themselves.

I once read a description of a visit a black lady took to japan, she said that after calmly having a normal conversation with an old man in a village somewhere they shook hands and the guy just licked her hand. She was like WTF and he explained that he though it might taste like coffee.

Asian women are quite popular with Western men. The same is not true the other way around. Women like tall well built men. Asian men are short and slightly built and thus seem like boys to them. As for when the pants come off, the little boy image is confirmed. I spent several months over in Japan using the shared baths. I would swagger to make my dick swing. I felt like a porn star in comparison.

It's my understanding that the Japanese culture is xenophobic. The cognitive dissonance to this is that they revere Western culture.

Quite the opposite. Japanese culture is open to other cultures. Korean culture, OTOH is xenophobic.

Hi to wifey and family for me.

Maybe, but the wife is part Chinese, and she's much softer than the rest of her family, or the other immigrants we've been invited to party with... except her aunt, who is also a Chinese halfbreed.

Filipinos are too ethnically diverse to pin down as having certain physical traits. Some Filipinos look more mexican than they do pacific islander, some have fair skin, some have very dark brown skin, some have curly hair, some have thick straight hair.

You mean judging as inferior by the standards of your society? Americans may have similar opinions, based on how your own culture differs from American culture.

Due to western media and influence, Asian in Singapore generally think white people are superior. Asian businessmen/women on the other hand think white people are dumb as f***.

can you elaborate?

White people are less likely to play dirty. Credibility has a status in America that is not true in most places in the world.

At least in Thailand nothing could be further from the truth. They strive to be like Westerners in more or less every way, they even try to gain lighter skin by using whitening face cream in the same way Westerners use fake tan to look more of a bronze shade.

They can be just like Westerners however, they often believe their culture and social values are the greatest and all others just cant compete. However Western cultural ascendancy isnt just an idea or belief its currently a reality and some Thai's have a great deal of trouble accepting that.

In my experience with both Thais and Chinese is that they look down upon their own "lower classes" a hell of a lot more than they do Westerners. However I think that would be different if they met the average Westerner. My relatives and friends in Thailand are used to dealing with educated, intelligent individuals from the West not the average hick from out in the sticks, so that may be part of the reason they do respect our civilization so much because they only see the best of it.

Well I'm half asian and half white, and the self hate is just overwhelming sometimes. Why did my mother have to marry a petty white man?

JK, being half and half I've had good friends from both sides, and I always get viewed as opposite, ex. asians think I'm white, whites think I'm asian. I haven't noticed any negative stereotypes from either side so yea...
