Do you prefer to be loved or to be respected in a relationship? (relationship is defined here as a particular type of connection existing between people related to or having dealings with each other)

I have always felt like I needed to choose between the two, and I have always chosen respect. Recently, I have started wondering if that is the right choice, but the idea of love without respect is unappealing.
