I stopped frozen in my tracks when I first saw it.
The intense heat was almost unbearable. At first, I thought the massive pillar of smoke meant the entire downtown was engulfed in flames; had the first and second lines of defense fallen so quickly? There was little that could be done if "they" managed to reach the crystal citadel that rose majestically from the heart of the city... ...then I realized it was just an old shoe that someone had left by the side of the road. Go figure. |
