My algorithm of making avatars.
0. I am using PS CS 5.5 on a OS X but this probably gonna work with PS CS 5.* on Windows too.
So I am assuming that you have already opened PS!
1. File->New (115x145 pixels, resolution 72 pixels/inch, RGB color, 8bit)
Loop
2. Drag and drop any picture that you want to make an avatar off on this newly created psd's area on PS's window (it will automatically create new layer for it and put it into a Free Transformation mode)
3. Transform the picture in the given 115x145 area as you want (tip: if it's moving a little bit jerky, move it with an arrows on your keyboard instead of the mouse) and than double click on it to end the transformation.
4. File->'Save for Web & Devices...', choose the *.gif file format with a 256 colors, 100% Dither (resize this if the file exceeds 20K size), other settings on default (you can tickle with the Quality (Bicubic in my case) or any other settings if you want)!
5. Save
6. Choose the name and the place where you want to save.
7. OK.
8. Layer->Delete->Layer.
End of the Loop

Thanks, I found it elsewhere on forum as well, I was doing it differently using the crop function but it's harder to see the result as it is BIG and not small as the avi.

But you should try JPG there instead of GIF, save for web and do JPG, usually it's around 95-100 in quality to be under 20KB.
Dunno, I will try GIF but I doubt it will outperform JPG.

Has you can tell I'm using one of yours and I was wondering how many people if any already are using it. Because I'd rather not use someone elses but I rather like it. It seems perfect for a follower of the teachings of Buddha or at least it does if you give it a little thought.
