I grew up all over the place and I called my mother "Mommy" and my father "Daddy" (the North American form). Because my formative years were spent up the Canadian border (where you get to watch bilingual Sesame Street aboot rangers and bears and forest fires). Then we moved to Asia and my father decided they wanted us to start calling them by the names they used to call their parents (my grandparents). I didn't like it at all, because it made it sound like I was talking to strangers.

Mother let me call her by the European equivalent, which is closer and less foreign (it's a Western European country, non-English speaking). While my father still insisted that I call him the word he called his father. Whatever... |

I only call her mother when I'm being sarcastic. This is about 40%-45% of the time.

I say "mom". It's kind of unusual for my family. Both my parents (when addressing their respective mothers) and my brother say "mamma".

I don't think I ever called my mother "Mommy" unless I was joking. She was "Mama" for years, but now she's "Ma", "Maman", or just plain "Mom".
When referring but not talking to her, she's "Mum" or "Mom". Basically, I can't make up my mind; she'll reply to anything that starts with an M. |

I called mine "Mom" going back to when I was quite young (before I was 10).
My kids are almost 11 and almost 8, respectively, and they still both call me "Mummy" which I love. I told them they can call me that forever if they want to. My son was teased in school last year by some kids in his class for referring to me as "Mummy", and told them and me that he didn't care what they thought. He likes calling me that, and that's it. I like that. |

Usually "Mom", "Mother" when I'm being sarcastic, rarely, "Barb", which is how she prefers to be addressed by adults.

I called mine either "the mother" or "the old one" (in French), which she didn't like at all. I grew up with lots of resentment towards her.

Generally: Mom
When asking her a question, or in a really good mood: mamMA... (sort of like the french "maman") Referrencing her when I'm less than impressed: Mine Mother Hinting that I'm getting impatient: "Mother" |
