Please take some time to read this this post. Posting access to Support & Feedback is reserved for those who use the subforum appropriately. Following the guidelines in this thread will prevent you from losing your Support & Feedback privileges.

S&F Guidelines and Where to Post

There are four places to post if you want to bring a forum issue to the attention of the administrators or moderators: Support & Feedback, Contact an Admin or Global, Report Forums, and through private messaging.

Support & Feedback:
This is a public subforum all users can see. Announcements about software or policy updates and other changes to the forum will be posted here. Users may post feedback or questions about the functioning of the forum that other users may be able to answer. This subforum is "resolution oriented", which means threads posted to the subforum are geared toward problem-solving. Accordingly, when an issue is considered by administrators to be resolved or when a thread ceases to provide new or useful feedback, that thread is closed by administrators.

Special considerations when posting in Support & Feedback:

Be constructive
We are not qualified to offer psychiatric treatment for nerd rage! Rants, first world problems, forumpolitik (the jockeying of cliques, personal vendettas, voting etc) and other threads posted essentially for the spectacle of it are not useful. Please keep responses aimed at resolution of the thread topic and do not use support threads to banter. Publicly "calling out" moderators you disagree with is not considered constructive. Please use the Contact an Admin or Global subforum if you have complaints about moderators.

Be specific
We cannot attempt to resolve issues if we do not know what they are. If you have encountered a bug, briefly describe where you encountered the bug and what you were doing at the time. Have a question about something going on or gone missing from a post or thread? Please link to the post or thread in question. If you suspect that something a user is posting to the forum is creating a problem that can not be addressed by clicking the Report Post button, name the user and link to examples.

No hijacking
Do not hijack other users' support threads with your own unrelated issues. Do not represent your opinions as if they were the opinions of other users.

Forum Rules Still Apply
If you need to create a post that contains what would normally be considered a rule violation or you need to repost something deleted by a moderator to fit the "be specific" criteria, then you should use the Contact an Adminstrator or Global subforum or private messages instead. Do not start new threads to continue discussion from closed threads. We consider this to be circumventing thread locks, which runs afoul of forum rule 3.

Users who fail to observe the above may have their S&F posting privileges revoked.
Contact an Admin or Global
Special access:
  • Members can only see their own threads in this subforum.
  • Only administrators or global moderators can see all threads.
  • Everyone except banned members may post here, including those under restrictions or infractions.

May be used for:
  • Support for locked and unvalidated accounts
  • Questions regarding infractions or suspensions
  • Reporting moderator abuse
  • Username change requests
  • Avatar gallery reservation requests
  • Threads that aren't appropriate for Support and Feedback
  • Members who have lost public S&F access may use it as an alternative to S&F.

Report Forums
Only moderators and administrators can see the report forums but any member can send threads here by using the report button on any post. We consider reports confidential and do not share names of users who report.

The most effective way to call a post to a moderator's attention is to use the report feature. Never report posts that need moderator attention within threads. The posts will be deleted and you may receive a warning. Use the report button to alert us of spam/advertisements, personal attacks, formatting errors, broken links, violations of the forum rules, or any other issues that need moderator attention.

Private Messages
If your posts have been moderated or you've received an infraction, you may contact the moderator who performed the action directly. You may also contact any of the moderators or administrators directly about other support issues, but be aware that mods and admins aren't required to come online everyday and response times may be slower.

More Information About Forum Support

Where To Get Support
This post goes into more detail about you where to go for various support issues. Topics include questions about moderation, questions about infractions, username changes, avatar reservations, account deletions, and bug reports. It isn't a required read, but if you're confused about how to resolve an issue, this might help.

Roles of Moderators and Administrators
Our moderators and administrators do not all perform the same tasks. This post describes the role of each group.

Where To Get Support

Questions about Moderation
Preferred Communication: Private Messaging
If a post is edited or deleted it will leave behind a notice with the moderator's name on it. You should ask them why your post was moderated before contacting an administrator to ask about it. If you cannot resolve your issue with the moderator, then contact an administrator using the contact an admin or global subforum. Always include links when asking about your posts. If your post has been deleted and can't be linked to directly, provide a link to a nearby post within the thread. If you have a question about a thread tell us the title of the thread and the subforum it was posted to.

Questions about Warnings or Infractions
Preferred Communication: Contact an Admin or Global
We no longer offer Infraction support via private messaging. Please use the Contact an Admin or Global subforum if you have questions about your infraction.

Editing/Deleting Your Posts, Changing Thread Titles, Adding/Updating Polls, Etc.
Preferred Communication: Report Button
While we don't mass delete posts or make major changes to posts others have already responded to, we sometimes do honor requests to make changes to your posts or threads you can't edit yourself. If you would like to make a request, please use the report button on the post you would like to alter. The report button isn't only for rule violations; it will send the request to the moderator assigned to the appropriate area automatically and they won't have to manually search for the threads or posts.

Account Deletions
Preferred Communication: Nowhere
We don't delete user accounts or entire post histories by request under any circumstances. We also won't lock members out of their accounts or ban on request.

Username Changes
Preferred Communication: Contact an Administrator
Username changes are usually granted to very new accounts as long as the username is available. Username change requests are not often granted to established accounts, but you may still put in a request. If the request is only for a minor change such as changing capitalization, adding or removing spaces, fixing a typo, or a shorter version of a long username, we will usually grant the request even for established accounts. If you are requesting a new username, please post it to the Contact an Administrator subforum. Do not PM these requests to Jezebel or individual administrators. Don't forget to include what you want your username changed to.

Avatar Reservations
Preferred Communication: Contact an Administrator
We will sometimes remove avatars from the gallery if an established member has been using it for a very long time. If you would like to claim the avatar please create a thread in the contact an administrator subforum.

Bug Reports
Preferred Communication: Support & Feedback
Administrators are the only users who can fix bugs so it's okay to alert us in the Contact an Administrator subforum, but we prefer threads in Support & Feedback so we can see how many other users are experiencing the issue. Other users may have also already discovered work-arounds.

Roles of Administrators and Moderators on INTJ Forum

Administrators
Permissions vary between individual members. Members of this usergroup are not responsible for moderating but can perform any moderator task.

Jezebel
  • Owns the forum
  • Only administrator who always has unlimited access to everything (database, server files, etc)
  • Handles financial issues (paying for the server, software, services, etc)
  • Makes final decisions in making major changes to the forum rules and structure
  • Technical admin; can modify forum code and database
  • Can advise, answer questions or reverse decisions of anyone in a lower usergroup
  • Can appoint other administrators
  • Administrator permissions: Everything. Changing forum settings, editing templates/phrases, editing the FAQ, notices & announcements, mass editing threads, changing a user's account (changing their usergroup, sending password reminders, banning, editing avatars, modifying infractions, etc), usergroup settings, user profile fields, avatar galleries, bbcode, emoticons, plugins and maintenance options

stasis
  • Has limited access to the server
  • Assists with creating forum rules and structure
  • Technical admin; can modify forum code and database
  • Can advise, answer questions or reverse decisions of anyone in a lower usergroup
  • Can appoint other administrators
  • Administrator permissions: Everything also.

Rudy & Storm
  • No access to the server or database
  • Not technical admin; cannot modify forum code or database
  • Can advise, answer questions or reverse decisions of anyone in a lower usergroup.
  • Can appoint moderators
  • Administrator permissions: Limited. Editing the FAQ, announcements, changing a user's account (changing their usergroup, sending password reminders, banning, editing avatars, modifying infractions, etc), avatar galleries.

mcat
This user is not an official administrator but will sometimes appear in the administrator group. It may not always be the same person. This account is accessed by programmers helping out with the forum on an as-needed basis. It is strictly a tech admin account that has no other involvement on the forum.
TagGirl
This is a test account that is sometimes put in the administrator group to test permissions. It is always controlled by another administrator and is removed from the administrator group when testing is complete.

Moderators
INTJf moderators assist with keeping threads on track and prevent the forum from filling up with spam and other low quality posts. They do not ban members or perform administrative tasks. They have some leeway in their interpretation of the rules and how strictly they enforce them, but they do not create completely new rules and cannot depart from the forum rules drastically.

Global Moderators
The primary function of this usergroup is to issue infractions. There are only a couple moderators in this group at a time. This usergroup can also assist with moderation tasks in any subforum, but is not intended to override decisions of the dedicated subforum moderators or moderate subforums for minor violations unless requested.
Regional Moderators
The primary function of this usergroup is to help out other moderators in the Mind & Behavior or World & Beyond sections when they are away or need help with the extra workload. This usergroup is not intended to override decisions of the dedicated subforum moderators or moderate subforums for minor violations unless requested.
Subforum Moderators
The primary usergroup most of our moderators belong to. These moderators are in charge of moderating specific subforums and cannot moderate subforums they are not assigned to. They have the most weight in how specific subforums are moderated and should not be overridden unless they have a very clear misunderstanding of the application of a rule. They read reports for their subforums, edit or delete posts, delete threads, edit/add/delete polls, and can maintain a subforum sticky containing information, tags, and/or useful thread links from their subforum. Global and regional moderators may also be subforum moderators.
