I found this looking for something else, took me 15 minutes watching to realize I had seen it before, but watching it last night from a new perspective, what with having read some of the bios and having more knowledge of the technology and just a different mindset going in it was a whole different experience. Anybody who hasn't seen it recently might take a look. I had a LOL moment with the video, probably from super 8 film of the homebrew cc in the 70s, where you could id the hardcore intjs in the club sitting a half-dozen rows behind the the already unnaturally spaced participants. The unbelievably cheesy narration, music, and general 'FX' are serious distractions, but what are you gonna do?

This is surprisingly accurate. They should have interviewed "The Mentor" from "The Conscience of a Hacker" as well, but they had a good cast nonetheless.
Revisionists advocate that 'hacker' never had anything to do with system break-in. History is pretty clear about how the term and the ideas evolved to what these revisionists today call the "wrong and deprecated" meaning of the word "hacker". This documentary shows it pretty well. |
