I always avoided energy drinks due to the fear that the caffeine would drive me up the wall, but I ended up drinking one during a 12 hour car trek....and it was amazing.
So, I went through the ingredients and found taurine to be the likely "culprit", and got myself a bottle of it at GNC. It works great. I rate my experience at about the same level as an SSRI I was taking, except it helps my stomach instead of driving it crazy. I find life so much more bearable now. It seems to stay in my system for two days or more if I get it from an energy drink, I dont know about straight pill form, because I have continued to take them consistently. Perhaps I simply had a deficiency due to a kind of vegetarian diet due to meat being a little pricey. Who knows, but it works very well for whatever reason. Anybody else try taurine for anxiety? Im very curious if its just me. |

I never tried it, but google says you are correct. It seems to do a variety of good things including boosting memory and cognitive functions. It would make sense to add it to energy drinks to balance them out. How much do you take?

You say you are a vegetarian...
Do you take b12 supplements or b complex vitamins? Sometimes a lack of b12 can cause anxiety and I hear that some vegetarians lack b12. I know there is a lot of b12 in energy drinks... Taurine could also have helped though! I have OCD and I find drinking energy drinks really mellows me out. |

I knew someone with a drug addiction. Because of that I used to research natural ways to reduce drug cravings. (Successfully beating drug addiction hinges on reducing cravings.) Amino acid therapy shows a lot of promise to treat drug addiction and reduce cravings. I have a book about it. Some amino acids are calming, others act like uppers. The same with electrolytes like calcium, magnesium and potassium, trace minerals and vitamins, and even omega-3 fatty acids can affect your mood. And, of course, sugar, alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, all affect your mood. I too am a vegetarian and I used to spend hours researching this. If you're going to take B-12 -- pm me -- I know of a really good sub-lingual one that includes the necessary co-factors.

I think Taurine is useful although I haven't tried it as an active supplement. Its on my list of things to experiment with.

I've been drinking coffee in conjunction with my anxiety for years. Basically my 'reasoning' is that when I'm anxious I'm expending energy like a champ-- leaving me constantly fatigued and irritable. If I know I'm going to be anxious I'll have coffee or tea beforehand (and admittedly usually after) to replenish my energy until I get out of the anxiety-provoking situation and calm myself down. I've always been told people with anxiety should avoid those drinks like the plague because they could make us more anxious but I disagree, I find it I get enough of a boost to maintain a state of tranquility. I don't over do the caffeine, just give myself enough to get back up to par.
I don't drink energy drinks because of the sugary, candy taste. Personal preference To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. |

Im not a vegetarian by choice, I had to go long periods without meat because of its cost. I had to eat foods with the most calories for the money. I eat meat when I can afford it, thank (deity of choice) for dollar menus. |

Ok, so I was cut off from having caffeine due to not being able to get out to get any, and I can honestly say the side effects were much less intense when I am on taurine. It didnt even take a day, a few tylenol, and I feel much better.
Usually I get insane anxiety for 3+ days, weakness, and sensitivity to pain. I feel pretty good right now, in comparison. For those of you who didnt know, caffeine withdrawal is a real thing, go check it out. Obviously from my experience, taurine helps it significantly. |

May I suggest beta-alanine instead of taurine?

Oh, and its true that it helps muscle control, I have much better control of my facial features, limbs, and voice as of lately. Its quite noticeable.
I take it in pill form, about 1000mg a day, once in the morning, and once near dinner. Usually 12 hours apart, seeing as I go to school 10 hours a day. |
