I see this term bandied around alot.

What exactly do we mean when we talk about the 'sexual peak' of a woman or man?

I think it means that they've reached a point where they'll never be as horny again as they are now.

Does this apply to both sexes?

I think the term is ludicrous... in that it can be interpreted in so many different ways...
Biologically it probably refers to the time in ones life when their testorone is at it's peak, thus they have a higher (predator like) drive for sexual endevours...

I think in reality it should be the point of balance when your skills and your performance are in line and at their peak..

Take me for example... (and pretty much ask any woman I am sure).. that at 32 years old I feel that I am at my sexual peak...

I have good libido, and 15 years worth of experience... I appreciate foreplay, and am more interested in insuring that my partner gets' off.. My skill set is complete.. my sexual toolbox is full of tools.. and I am certain that at 32 I can easily blow away any 18 year old in terms of how much pleasure I can provide my partner... To me this would be the true definition of sexual peak.. When I am able to perform at my utmost and do the most based on my natural attributes and experience....

I know that when I was 20 or so I thought I was the worlds greatest lover, but at 32 I realize that at 20 I didn't even know how to properly beat off, much less truley please of woman...

My two cents.......

I've done some reading on this...

Studies say that men sexually peak at around 17-20 and women in their 30's. The physical anthropological reason for this is that the species didn't want men and women to sexually peak at the same to avoid having too many children to handle; some time down the evolutionary line. Some cultural anthropological theories contradict this as to say men only sexually peak before women because western society promotes it, and discourages women from being aggressive with their sexuality; as a result, women have traditionally become more in tune with their sexual desires later in life.

In college, a rather liberal environment, women can be very aggressive - and I'd say that they are peaking the same time as the guys.

However, women in college aren't looking to "nest", but just to get a good orgasm and/or be entertained. If the physical anthropological studies refer to "nesting", rather then a good fuck, then those theories are probably more correct.

To me, a guy with a low sex drive and/or decent levels of self-control, it sounds like a term that's used by people to justify doing things that make them feel guilty, or things that earn them the scorn of the more restrictive members of society. But that's me.

I felt kind of overcome when just entering puberty (around 10 for me) but I think just because it was all so new. That was a very inconsistent time though so I would definitely not call it a peak. Since then it's been a really stable ride for me. I don't really fantasize or whatever but I function just fine when opportunities arise (or when I have nothing better to do haha). I hope it stays at this relaxed stage until middle age. I like being able to view sex in a holistic way and I don't have to pine over some lost golden age or whatever.

Many people around me (university age) seem completely out of control though so it must be pretty common.

So this is when men sexually peak?

Do you think that in ten years you'll be saying, " Too bad I peaked at 32"?

So what constitutes 'sexual peak'? Drive, assertiveness, hormones, ability?

Hormones for the body - drive

Assertiveness and ability for the mind.

You may physically peak long before you have confidence, or the other way around.

(I'm not grand expert on this, it's just what I've read, and some life exeriences seem to correlate with this).

Essentially. Not that I'm looking down my nose at people who do that.

It would depend, I suppose if my physical abilities had degredaded to the point that I could not perform at my optimum, then that may be the case.. I'll just have to wait and see when I get there... In either instance I am certain that I did not peak at 18, as my experience/understanding was no where near what it is now concerning both male and female sexuality.

Horniness like the man said, perhaps modified with ability and looks.

I put it down to cavemen times. The 16 year old has not developed a mans physique and is unlikely to get any. Thus he compensates by being hornier than the other males. It means he tries harder.

By contrast a woman in her 30's is a poor prospect. People died young and such a woman would not be able to raise the resultant offspring. Thus she has to make the effort to seduce the most attractive males from the 20 something women.

We have to recall that most women spent their entire adult life pregnant. The man is competing with other males to persuade her and to drive off other males. She is competing with other females for the attention of the best males.

I think sexual peak really has to do with hormones, but environmental factors should always be considered in individual cases.

If this is true, then women must peak at a much younger age than is generally thought.

It's just that I've noticed that people (especially men) tend to think they are peaking at whatever age they happen to be when they are asked.

I think women tend to think more in terms of their ability to relax and enjoy the act of sex as 'peaking'. In other words, they view their ability to both give and recieve pleasure as the key ingredient, whereas, men seem to view their own level of desire for sex as the key ingredient. This is probably because a man's ability to achieve an erection decreases with age and a woman's ability to be comfortable with her body and her partner's body increases with age.

Some time in their 30's. Lets face it, you aint got the physical fitness you used to have. Very old people don't do it often even though they have every opportunity. This proves there is a peak.

I think I am returning to the same state I was in as a kid. Must be testosterone dropping off as I age. You must have noticed the pattern, teens guys want it more, twenties equal, thirties gal wants it more, forties guys can only manage one shot then they sleep.

It's true.........I'm much less fit than I was even five years ago (but fighting it all the way). But, my sex life actually seems to get better with every passing year. However, it's not an increase in desire that I use to define 'getting better'.

I wonder if it is more about stale relationships than aging that causes men and women to lose interest in sex as they age? I mean if older people could have anyone they wanted.....do you think they'd have sex alot more?

That's not good. You shouldn't peak until about two minutes after your partner finishes.

I am a 42yr old male.
When I was 22, I set my own record of 14 times with cumming(my partner far more) in 24 hours.(Boy, was I tired) At that time I viewed sex as a sprint.
Now I'm only at 5 times in 24 hours, but I spend an hour or more each time(my current partners do claim to enjoy it). I dont aways cum, with some I fake it(they get disapointed?).
I am much more discriminating in my partners, and view sex as more of a marathon.
From a biological perspective, I peaked 20 years ago.
From my own enjoyment of sex, I'm still not there yet.
I would suggest that anyone who wants more pleasure from sex, may wish to study Tantric yoga. It can be quiet eye opening.

I suddenly feel inadequate.

Even in my teens I had no desire to ejaculate 5 times a day let alone 14, to be doing this in your 40's impresses me. Do you take weekends off? You must have balls the size of melons.

I'm even more impressed than Thod, but without the gonad fixation he seems to have.
