so here goes my (hopefully) proper introduction;
hello, my name is Crea. I am 20 years old. to get through least interesting details, I will just mention some things from my childhood. I am an orphan. unlike most people that have one/two/three siblings, I had 11 of them. I was always "that weird child" who likes to stare at the stars, wander off in the woods and day-dream during the praying time. it wasn't because I was distracted all the time -- at year of 8 I was diagnosed with quite a rare condition -- synesthesia. as a child I was already interested in medicine. sometimes I just chose to read books about anatomy instead of fighting with other kids on the playground. well, there wasn't much of a reading - pictures were informative enough for me back then. even thou I lived in an orphanage, I wasn't much of religious child. I remember the moment when I came up to father and told him that I don't want to pray, believe or listen anything about god, and what you know, he agreed and let me sit out the prayers. I since I had quite a lot of free time when I wasn't attending prayers and lectures, I took up music. a nice lady living few houses away was a piano teacher who suggested me I should play. few years later I took up a cello and few more - a violin. well, music was quite a big part of my life and still is. at 16 years I left the orphanage and prematurely enrolled a war academy. before that moment my life was pretty much around books, researches, observations and figuring. it could actually be called dull, boring, melancholish. and yeah, it pretty much was. my only refuge was music, the knowledge and my sister (my best friend). and it was that way just the moment before I set my foot into academy's territory. there was much to adapt to the first few months, but then I felt my freedom. I was actually free. It was a time where my knowledge and my dreams could prove themselves of any worth. everyone can probably imagine or even know what's going on in the academy. after two years in the academy, I took up extramural psychology studies too. and well, after 4 years when I was done with my "masters" I was offered a job. so I said "bye bye" to the academy, rented an apartment and moved into with my sis. now I am on the 3rd psychology year, and 1st year in medicine. planing to go until psychoanalysis and diagnostic medicine bachelor and maybe even further. so, this was pretty much who I am. it's unusual for me to be telling "stories of my life" like this -- maybe this will let someone get to know me. I am looking forward to having a good time here. as for my hobbies and activities, if anyone wonders, I am still playing my instruments. if it wasn't for music, I don't know if I could go this far. also, martial arts, free running; well, it's in my profile. so, thanks for reading, if anyone bothered reading this far, and hello ![]() |

Very interesting story.
Welcome to the Forum; perhaps it will become another place to which you can come for some "friend time". |

Welcome Crea. I remember when I used to daydream looking up at the stars too...stars too...stars too... (flashback occurs - 15 minutes of life is wasted)

Hi Crea,
Has synesthesia when it comes to music? I've read that people with this condition (superpower?) tend to be creative since they can easily make links between objects and concepts that others don't. Has it hindered you in some ways? |

I like this question. I have been asked this so many times that it's even funny how people think I would know :D when something is normal to you, especially with such "things" you had ever since you became aware of your own existence, you can not know how would it be without them. unless you can get rid of them. you know, it's like speculating what is it like to be male when you are female and vice versa. |

"Has synesthesia when it comes to music?"
The word "help" was cut. Has it helped you when it comes to music? Even though you have synesthesia, are you able to distinguish the properties you perceive which are linked to the object and the properties you perceive which aren't linked to the object? For example, are there times when you see the number "9" and perceive a color or a sound as a result? If so, can you clearly make the conceptual distinction between "9" as a numerical concept and the colors and sounds it conjurs up? When a object results in some unrelated sensation being felt, is it always the same sensation? If the number "9" makes you think of a color, is it always the same color? I don't know much about synesthesia so perhaps my questions are based on false suppositions. Perhaps starting a thread titled "Ask the person who has synesthesia" would be beneficial? It certainly sounds loopy and counter-intuitive enough to be interesting. |
