The scene in The Pursuit of Happyness where Will Smith and his son are in the public restroom, pretending to hide.

pretty much sums up my experience as a high school student. I was like a female Max Fischer. I'd skip to about 1:45 to get to the meat of it.

I can't think of any movie scenes that define me but the following 'move' or intrigue me :

In Roots : The Next Generations, when Alex Haley visits the Gambia and meets his distant cousin and it flashes back to Kunta Kinte and each of his descendants

In Roots, the original mini-series, when Fiddler comforts Kunta after being whipped and told his name is 'Toby'.

In Titanic, when Rose tells Jack she changed her mind and meets him at the front of the ship when the sun is setting, also when she realizes he's dead and blows the whistle for help (Titanic in general was fantastic, White people drowning left and right)

Terminator 2 when the Terminator sacrifices himself to make sure no one ever finds the tech. that could create Skynet

In Glory when Denzel Washington's character is whipped and tries to remain stoic but a tear drops

In Mo' Betta Blues when Denzel's character tries to play the sax. but his mouth is busted and he fails, Wesley Snipe's character takes over and he tries to walk out of there with some dignity

In Goodfellas when the bus boy is killed and Henry holds him in his arms (messed up scene)

In Rebound when the guard tells Earl Manigault that he was one of the best basketball players who ever lived, one of the greats who never made it

In Dead Presidents when they're riding in the car and 'The Look of Love' is playing in the background.

In Hotel Rwanda when all the Europeans and the peacekeepers leave them behind to be slaughtered by Hutu extremists, it starts to rain and 'A Million Voices' starts playing

In Lumumba when Lumumba gives his independence day speech

In Rosewood when Ving Rhames tell his horse to run and let him dangle from the rope because he doesn't want him to be shot

That Kevin Costner movie about Native Americans when he's captured by the other White men after living with the Native Americans so long and cries out when they shoot the wolf he 'befriended' (I can barely remember this but I remember liking it)

In Nightmare on Elm Street 2 when the main character is dancing to 'All Night Long' on his bed (the song makes the scene)

When Antwone Fisher recites 'Who will cry for the little boy' to Denzel Washington's character

etc.

Pacino in Devil's Advocate:

"Don't get too cocky my boy. No matter how good you are don't ever let them see you coming. That's the gaffe my friend. You gotta keep yourself small. Innocuous. Be the little guy. You know, the nerd... the leper... shit-kickin' surfer. Look at me.
Underestimated from day one.

I'm the hand up Mona Lisa's skirt. I'm a surprise, Kevin. They don't see me coming"

aaand;

"You sharpen the human appetite to the point where it can split atoms with its desire; you build egos the size of cathedrals; fiber-optically connect the world to every eager impulse; grease even the dullest dreams with these dollar-green, gold-plated fantasies, until every human becomes an aspiring emperor, becomes his own God... and where can you go from there? Joel: I really should go! I've gotta catch my ride.
Clementine: So go.
Joel: I did. I thought maybe you were a nut... but you were exciting.
Clementine: I wish you had stayed.
Joel: I wish I had stayed too. NOW I wish I had stayed. I wish I had done a lot of things. I wish I had... I wish I had stayed. I do.
Clementine: Well I came back downstairs and you were gone!
Joel: I walked out, I walked out the door!
Clementine: Why?
Joel: I don't know. I felt like I was a scared little kid, I was like... it was above my head, I don't know.
Clementine: You were scared?
Joel: Yeah. I thought you knew that about me. I ran back to the bonfire, trying to outrun my humiliation.
Clementine: Was it something I said?
Joel: Yeah, you said "so go." With such disdain, you know?
Clementine: Oh, I'm sorry.
Joel: It's okay.
[Joel leaves]
Clementine: Joely? What if you stayed this time?
Joel: I walked out the door. There's no memory left.
Clementine: Come back and make up a good-bye at least. Let's pretend we had one.
[Joel comes back]
Clementine: Bye Joel.
Joel: I love you...
Clementine:

Comes way too close to a previous relationship of mine, but dammit, I love this movie, especially this scene. It has taken a lot of effort to be less Joel-like. And Clementines aren't really my type anymore.

Oh god, I adore that movie. Both of them, actually.

(Celine is such a typical NF, really.)

Speaking of Before Sunrise / Sunset, this scene depicts elegantly what I'm highly afraid of becoming one day:

The last scene in "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer". He unleashes his perfected super-odour on the crowd, resulting in mass orgy. Then he quietly scuttles off, avoiding the guillotine. Great stuff!

I knew which scene ^ this would be before I clicked on it. If I hadn't met my husband when I did, I could see myself succumbing to this line of thinking (err feeling).
