Do you really think the diplomatic relationship between the United States and the UK is going to be in any way imperiled by this? What "trouble" do you predict?

For some reason I think you'd be equally offended if the USA followed British policy without question. |

How many times can you poke an enemy in the eye over sensitive issues before you start to fray the relationship? |

Talks aren't capitulations. As I understand it there's currently no dialogue between the British government and nearby South America, creating some degree of economic isolation. Also, according to |

Publicly stated positions on sensitive, multiparty diplomatic talks probably have little bearing on the reality of the process, even with what's visible in the diplomatic community. I wonder if a blogger who has absolutely zero insight into the process is the best person to comment on them?
That said, the "OAS" isn't "Hugo Chavez", no matter how reductive Fox News tries to be...it's the Organization of the American States, it represents all Latin American countries, it's the primary forum for multiparty cooperation and peaceful resolution in the hemisphere and is an essential partner in diplomacy to the U.S. and the UK. The UK has permanent observer status, certainly knew this was coming and probably worked with the OAS directly on the issue. In short: I don't think Ed Morrissey has a fucking clue what he's talking about. |

I like the way the Fox News article captions its embedded photograph with "Argentina's President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner smiles during a news conference in Mexico City May 30" even though the timeline they give has the salient events occurring in June and then last Tuesday in El Salvador. Nice shot of the Mexican flag in the background too. |
