I am new to the group and I just wanted to throw out some background and get the thoughts of the group here. I have always known that I was an introvert not only based on how I felt, but also how I have been perceived by others. This coupled with the anxiety felt in groups of strangers and the fear of having people behind me...

Growing up and through high school I used to always hear that people thought I was better than everyone and thought I was so "cool" because I didn't pay attention to anyone but my close group of 3 or 4 friends. Those things were easy enough to blow off. In fact I figured it as normal because all 6 of my brothers and sisters were always the same way. Not really outgoing and going to parties, while only have a couple friends if that.

Fast forward to my present situation when I am employed as a Recruiter (Gasp!) where it is my responsibility and job to talk to people I don't know all day in order to make money and survive financially. After 3 years of recruiting with 4 separate agencies I am mentally done with it. My concern now is that I am obsessed with thinking about and trying to find a job/career that will support my need to not talk or deal with people regularly. I cannot focus on my current work duties at all to the point that days often pass by with me browsing the net for leads instead of doing what I am paid to do.

With all this rambling being said I ask has anyone else been in this similar situation? Also, what are the best type of career opportunities that people could suggest? What do you do to deal with anxiety or obsession? Your responses are appreciated.

Career paths? There are a bunch of companies with differente levels of interactin in their recruiting process, for example I read tons of resumes over the net, and derivateeach match to its corresponding recruiter who are the ones who actually do the interview. I do some myself, but I don't have time.

So you can stay in your own area, just look for companies with a longer and wider process.

I have the same dilemma. I've worked as a teacher for years despite the fact that I barely appreciate interacting with many people, much less many people. Unfortunately, I just can't seem to find any convenient way out given my financial situation. I'll probably hang on to it for a while.

Remember that you have more assets than your introversion. Finding jobs which would make use of planning abilities and management would utilize some other INTJ strengths (assuming that you share those strengths), and don't necessarily need to compromise privacy.
