As the article says: Don't read too much into it.

I'm going to guess that the areas for emotional memories grows with age, whereas the area for empathy shrinks.

This article seems to be left bias . . . highlighting the positive trait of liberals being concious of thier fellow man while conservatives react to emotional stimuli . . . giving the impression that they "over react". Sensing danger vs. empathy . . . yes this is definitey a biased article.

I suspect that at least in my case, i have empathy for people around me . . . but I also am not so taken that my judgement is gone. For instance I see a panhandler on the side of the road. He is there every week when I travel that area. i don't give to him, because I know what he can get without my cash. There are many facilities for assiatance in my area . . . showers, cloths, you name it for free. I know where they are and I'm not homeless . . . Second, i know how the food stamp system works I used to distribute them. You only need to "look for a job" not be successful at finding one. And you can get almost 200/month per person in food stamps . . . which if you eat frugally . . . is very good. I know I survived on 25/week when i was in the red for over 4 years . . . it can be done. That means the only reason for such cash is to buy the things you can't get with food stamps . . . cigs and booze . . . . I help out at charity events . . . I do other things in my community . . . that means I empathize, but i'm very conservative.

This article definitely has a leftist bias - the study could have been as well, for all we know. Notice they even coincidentally only show the leftist's brain, and they try to portray liberals as "open-minded" (they are, but only to things they already agree with), and try to portray conservatives as uptight and defensive (clearly it must be due to the presence of a non-hypocritical, open-minded liberal).

I can see a connection between a generally "liberal" outlook/lifestyle and having greater empathic capability, but there's a difference between having a liberal outlook on life and leftist politics. I think I'm fairly "liberal" in some ways, but I'm definitely right-wing politically. I've met conservative people who were leftists, too. The average democrat (and republican) is fairly conservative when it comes to the way they think/outlook. I think intuitive types are probably more likely to be "liberal," and NPs especially.

That's the first time I've heard the Daily Mail accused of having a leftist bias! It's renowned for being reactionary and rabidly right-wing

Hey, I have forgotten this thread!

I don't take things as they are. I am on for scientific basis.

People who lean to the left and have liberal views are more likely to have an enlarged anterior cingulate cortex - the part of the brain associated with playing a role in regulating blood pressure and empathy.

those on the right with conservative tendencies tend to have larger amygdalas, the part of our grey matter involved in the processing and memory of emotional reactions.

Researchers postulate that leftist are more likely to have a big anterior cingulate. Whereas rightist have bigger amygdalas.

Psychologists had also noticed that conservatives are more sensitive to threat or anxiety in the face of uncertainty while liberals are more open to new experiences.

Does the assumption ring true?

Without grey matter, one would be dead.
