Time of Eve
To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. Genre: Science Fiction // Movie Runtime: 1hr 47 mins, OVA: 6 Eps. A boy investigates his Houseroid on suspicions that she's/it's acting on her/its own without orders being given. After accessing her logs, he finds out that she has been going to a certain place. He tracks the location and discovers a door in a quiet and inconspicuous alley. As he enters, he is welcomed to the "Time of Eve", a cafe were robots(androids) and humans are not discriminated. Just watched it. Why have I never heard from it before? The animation, the music, the characters and their story, they're all beautiful! It should be expected that the main theme of the series is on robot ethics. There was one particular thing in the movie that made me think. [HIDE="Semi-spoiler"]Orphaned child with programmed android parent. Although I think this is not likely in a "realistic future" scenario, it still makes me wonder what would happen if it does happen.[/HIDE] There are some tear-jerking moments, which I admittedly cried at. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. I also read that it was originally a 6 episode OVA spanning 15-27 mins each. I quickly checked to see if there were differences and it seemed that there was a scene added in the start of the movie that's not present in the in the first episode OVA. I'm too lazy to check any other differences, but I think it's safe to say that it's preferable to see the movie. Also, the Movie/OVA seems be a part 1 of a 2(?)-part series. It isn't confirmed yet unfortunately. It kinda ended when things got more interesting so I really really hope I get to watch the next installment soon! |

[HIDE="Spice and Wolf"]
To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. [/HIDE] Since I'm a big History and Econ buff, I have to say that Spice and Wolf really surprised me. Very light on action, yet very heavy on individualism. Lawrence, a traveling peddler, happens across Holo, an incarnation of a wolf deity who feels out of place in a world that no longer needs her to supply wheat harvests. They both agree to head up north where she would rejoin her kind. However, the longer they travel, the more apparent it becomes that they are two kindred spirits. Both come from two different, yet similar, worlds of solitude. Moreover, both share the same desire to seek acceptance through travel and trade while preserving their self-respect, which is reflected in the way they deal with each other on the emotional level. This is not to say that they don't have their differences. In fact, they are quite complimentary. Holo's wolf-like directness and cunning definitely pairs well with Lawrence's patience and empathy. Although both are extraordinarily intelligent in their own right, the show's writers have proven more than once that they are excellent life partners. This is certainly not some cheesy fairy-tale; it's genuine romance between two lone wolfs. After watching season 1, it's a solid 8.5/10. Definitely recommended for fans of drama. |

Just started watching To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. ; so far it's rather amusing. The main character is living with a girl who adores him; but the kings of heaven and hell become their neighbors and their daughters join school with them. Making things better, the kings insist that the boy will wed one of their daughters and become the next king of heaven or hell. What I find rather amusing is, the king of heaven is a loud mouthed ape of a man who drinks liquor from the bottle, while the king of hell is a small soft spoken androgynous man who sips from crystal. |

I second To aru majutsu no index, Howl's Moving Castle, and Ponyo.
Fruits Basket I found half good, half unbearably cloying. I did like the Shigure character, and the English voice dub actor did a great job. And Ayame was fun too. School Rumble was actually a lot of fun. I like that the main characters are all pretty dimwitted, it makes a pleasant change. They pulled off a lot of ridiculousness because they played it straight throughout. Kenji Harima is the most lovable character I've seen in any anime series, hands down. I can recommend Genshiken, both the manga and the anime, about a bunch of otaku who form a college club called The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture. Both very meta and tongue-in-cheek. |

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust I really like the halfling, loner-type characters who are trying to find their place in the world; go figure. Going up against other beings with mutant powers are always fun to watch as well. I'm glad it got updated from the old movie as the art style is inspired by one of my favorite artists: Yoshitaka Amano. Very sensuous and fluid. He also did the art for the early Final Fantasy games, namely Final Fantasy IV and VI. Cell Animation: 9 Overall: 9 |

However, having lost his sixth sense and the ability to see spirits, Masahiro struggles to prove himself that he is more then just "Seimei's grandson". Out of nowhere, a mononoke begins to follow Masahiro around, he then decides to call the mononoke, Mokkun. Without realising, Mokkun is actual the fearsome Touda, or Guren as Seimei has named him, one of Seimei's twelve shikigamis. With the assistance of Mokkun, Masahiro begins to battle the spirits haunting their city, and perhaps develop his innate ability that could even surpass Seimei. Based on the novel by Yuuki Hikaru. |

On the flavor of School Days, here is one of the "bad" endings of the game (not the anime). Its in Japanese, but you know what? Doesn't matter... you'll see.

One Piece- It's the end all best manga there is. I don't know why there aren't more fans.
Other good manga/anime: Hellsing, Full Metal Alchemist, Naruto, Hikaru no Go!, Shaman King, Samurai Champoo, Cowboy Bepop, Fairy Tail, Trigun, Serial Experiments Lain, Witch Hunter Robin, Bleach, etc. |

It's actually a rather amusing family problems manga. The first issue is missing for some reason; I'm on issue twelve now, as the brother protects his sister's passion from their father. |

Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai aka My Little Sister Can't be This Cute
Is also an anime which recently finished it's first season. Was a pretty good anime so I'd recommend it as well. There's supposed to even be a spin off manga coming out soon focusing on one of the supporting characters in the manga and anime. |

Another random recommendation this one though if you watch it be prepared for a long series, 7 seasons. It is one of the classics though and one of my favorites from the past Ranma ˝.

Damn dubbing... I was gonna give InuYasha a try, but the dubbed version was set to load first. I'm starting to think there's more problems with the dubbing than just the voice actors. Syntax for example, when translating meanings get lost in the dubbing, and we're left with "who the hell talks like that?" and "Japanese treat each other like children?"; while subbing may also suffer this, it still sounds good.
While reading manga - not sure if the rest of you do this - I read the translator's notes, and there seems to be considerable difficulty getting certain concepts across; like say, tying to translate "I'm so horny", but you don't have that word or even an equivalent, so you settle for "I'm so dirty rotten slut whore bag", or going technical "I'm so ovulating". Now, with subbed anime and manga, between the image and the words we can get a basic idea and enjoy it; but when dubbed by halfhearted voice actors it gets just plain lame. The script would pretty much have to be re-written in full for it to be almost as enjoyable. ---------- Post added 06-10-2011 at 12:27 PM ---------- To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. Boy grows up a commoner, then his parents die when he's high school age; his grandfather takes him in, who happens to be a financial tycoon; he rescues one girl, and finds out he's engaged to another. It's a rather charming play on high society. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Short comments for current series:
AnoHana: Last two episodes were very disappointing. Deus ex machina for the lose. They injected 'that' out of nowhere and there are only two episodes left. The timing feels way off unless they plan to extend the series. Hanasaku Iroha: Episode 11 was a masterpiece. The scenario felt real enough that you can empathize with Ohana. I realized that the few slow episodes back were to build momentum for this episode. The show has gone up on my list of anime I'd recommend. I'm glad that it's 26 episodes long. Hopefully, by the end of it, it'll become one of my all-time favorites. C: I'm a little worried that this is only an 11 episode anime. There are only a couple of episodes left but the show could easily have been a 24 episode anime considering where the story is going. I hope they don't just cramp the story up and potentially screw the series. They should take it steady and prepare for a second season instead. Steins;Gate: I admit. I have been skimming the last few episodes. There were a few extremely thrilling moments but the rest, especially most of the dialogues, were just unnecessary, uninteresting, and/or unbearable. On episode 11: The last part really scared me. I got chills when Okabe received the text message. I hope things get a little more serious and I hope they start to lessen those dramatic gibberish from Okabe. ---- On another note, has anyone seen the To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. interests me though. It says the series will span a 100 years and will have three protagonists. Despite the underAGE characters, I hope they make the story more on the mature side.

Since I'm back in my hometown I'm back in physical contact with my network. Here are my impressions (only serious shows that people might actually watch; crap like Pretty Rhythm Aurora Dream I won't dignify with a response)
Puella Magi Madoka: The only show that I missed while I was gone that people actually mentioned, and...well, something on my top-10 list is getting displaced. This is fantastic. I heard a lot of people skipped it because ~mahou shoujo~ and although I admit I have a soft spot for them, this definitely transcends the genre. Tiger & Bunny: I find the premise amusing but the characters are annoying as heck. Unfortunately, I'm going to be subjected to the rest of it, so let's hope this ouroboros thing actually turns out to be cool. Nichijou: I like to watch this just to zone out and practice my Japanese comprehension, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It's not as engaging as Azumanga Daioh or even Lucky Star. Yondemasu Azazel-san: For some reason I feel like I can relate to the main character, which is odd because wtf. Fairly disturbing comedy but if you can get over the subject matter there are some seriously hilarious moments. Stein's Gate: I love the characters in this. Quirky but in an original way, and with a non-trivial plot to back them up, although progressing rather slowly. If you don't like the characters then I could understand how it could be frustrating to try and absorb the plot, but I feel like that isn't the complete package. Also important: very quotable and instantly recognizable. Hana-saku Iroha: slice-of-lifey, kind of interesting but not enough comedy to keep me watching. I'd like to see how the characters develop since it was made pretty clear that that is the point of the story but I'm not about to sit through 280 minutes of this to find out. Gin-tama: I enjoy it but we all know what it is by now. Hidan no Aria: ugh. Clearly aimed at a younger crowd who thinks everything is awesome. Something's amiss about it that really bugs me, like the characters were written by a person with no social skills or something. Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko: Strangely over-the-top and yet manages to be just modest enough to keep itself together. I have a feeling they'll keep the question of whether the aliens are real or not a mystery, but that's OK. Didn't think I'd like it, but actually quite fun. Ao no Exorcist: I hope the characters keep maturing because this could be a decent shonen power-up series but it doesn't really grab me (lol ep1). I feel like it's more watchable for novelty/snark value than for actually being good. I do like how the main character is actually a motivated, decent person but held back by his hot temper and inferiority complex. C the money of soul and possibility of control (or whatever it is, jeez): Too clunky, sorry. If the battles made any kind of sense, instead of just being a series of random injections of unrelated economics jargon combined with a rule-less pokémon battle, then maybe it would be watchable. As it stands, the plot is basically by fiat, which I guess is the ultimate financial metaphor. Deadman Wonderland: Delightfully twisted, it makes me shudder just enough to keep me coming back for more. Aaand that's about all I have an opinion on I think.

I second Nyan Koi! I think it's one of the better Harems out there. I remember the last episode of the show implying a second season, but it's been almost two years and it hasn't been out yet, so I'm a bit disappointed. Here's another Harem for you guyz out there: Yosuga no Sora To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. Genre/Tags: Romance, Harem, Drama, Incest // 12 Episodes One word: TwinCEST. Harem is not really my cup of tea, but forbidden/difficult romance is. Anything Yaoi, Yuri, Incest, Romeo & Juliet, or similar romance entertains me greatly, especially those with drama. Warning: There are overt sex scenes in this anime. Some of those scenes I thought were unintentionally hilarious. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. It also follows an Omnibus format similar to Amagami SS, so it isn't truly a harem. ---- @Persona I agree on C. I think the battles are gimmicky and I had low expectations for the show because of it. Overall still, I think it's one of the more entertaining anime this season. |
