I was wondering how many forum members have English as their first language.
You'll notice that I split English into American and British variants. If you are unsure which one you use/prefer, I'll suggest first looking at To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. . The latter article focuses only on the spelling differences, but it should suffice to approximately determine the variant you use/prefer. If you use another variant, try to choose the closest match (for example, although Australian English is unique in many ways, the closest match would be British English). A more thorough comparison can be found with To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. . If English is not your first language or are a variant fairly distinct from both American and British, please feel free to specify it in a post (after voting in the poll, of course To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. I voted for British English as an additional (second) language, but I fear I'm mixing British and American variations freely at times. First language is German.

Don't we all? It is sometimes difficult to differentiate between the two variants. It is for this reason that I stated you should select the option you use/prefer. |

It seems I'm the first to vote for Am. english as additional language. Actually I guess I prefer British english but I do speak American english, there's just no denying it, even if I'm not happy about it.

I grew up speaking British English and Twi at the same time. My dad would speak English, while my step mom would/still speak the latter to us, and the two kind of just came together. However, I speak more American English because of school, but I still use quite a few of their expressions/spellings.

Yeah, don't worry too much about mixing the two. As a native speaker of American English, I use quite a few British English conventions.

American English is my first language. I recognize British English when I hear it, but I've never really thought of it as all that different. There are some regional dialects of American English that I have much more trouble understanding than British English.

Same as the OP, my first language being pretty much equally British English and Afrikaans. I grew up speaking American English but after moving to South Africa it slowly turned into British, which is generally spoken here. I can also speak some German.
