Well. If she is busy - maybe cooking dinner (for me also) then I find it perfectly reasonable to ask. Not that I've ever thought about situations like this.

The mother of my teenage sweetheart, however, had this strange habit of calling up her son - from another room, because she wanted him to close a window in the room where she was sitting.
That always struck me as weird, but....really. It's not like she never did anything for him.
