How many times have you gotten that phone call, You have been picked to receive our free _______, just pay this or that or opt out after so long. When did the definition of "free" change, when did it get qualifiers. What free scams piss you off?, what come on have you seen lately? or am I the only one who hates free anything? (Yes I just got another telephone solicitation).

A girl tried scamming me with a free sex session, all i had to do was book her, and pay 100 dollars to book her, but the sex was free...

So I scammed her into talking dirty, and giving me a free showing on webcamera of what she'd do to me...
I love morons.

That reminds me of high school. I would go on yahoo chat in the lesbian rooms and pretend to be a chick. I would negotiate with two chicks to trade nude pictures. Both chicks would send me a picture, then I would send it to them to show that I really was a chick, who really did have nude pictures.

Then I'd trade with all the other lesbians. But the funny part was that some were obviously guys and trying too hard to fake it, those guys I'd be up front with and trade all my pictures for all of theirs and share scam stories with each other.

"Free Lunch? Hell, I did not even know he was in jail (gaol)."

The entire "free" concept is an interesting, albeit to me lame, marketing ploy. There is not one f*&$ing thing in this world that is free. Someone had a commercial on TV once that offered a "free" product, where all you had to pay was shipping & handling. How does this qualify as free? The CCs (Cost Centres 1, 2 & 3, all boys, about 13, 15 & 17 at the time) had trouble with this concept. Finally I said the them, hey. I have a brand new free Corvette for you. All you have to pay is the shipping and handling, which is $85,000.00. They got the picture quite quickly.

COMPLIMENT OF SEASON,REQUEST FOR URGENT CONFIDENTIAL BUSINESS

After due deliberation with my colleagues, I decided to forward this
proposal to you. We want a reliable person who could assist us to
transfer the sum of Twleve Million United States Dollars
(US$12,000,000.00)into his/her account.

This fund resulted from an over-invoced bill from contract awarded by
us under the budget allocation to my ministry and the bill was approved
for payment by the concerned ministries. The contract has been
executed, commissioned and the contractor was paid the actual cost of the
contract. we are left with the balance of US$12,000,000.00 as part of the
over-invoiced amount, which we have deliberately over estimated for our
own. I am contacting you to be our custodan for this fund. on the
receipt of this, we have agreed on this below sharing ratio:-

1. 25% for you as the account owner.
2. 70% for us
3. 5% for Tax, as may required by our Government and your government.

As you may want to know and to make you less curious, I got your
address from adverts, in business directory that protrayed your establishment
in good light. I am the Secretary of the Contract Awarding Committee
(C.A.C)of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporatio (NNPC). This
transaction is very much free from all sorts of RISK and TROUBLE from my
Government. We have been exercising patience for this great business
opportunity for so long and to most of us, this is a life time opportunity we
cannot affford to miss.

To get this fund paid into your account, we have to present a Payment
Invoice from a foreign establishment like yours. With this invoice, we
will seek approval to transfer the fund within 14 banking days through
the APEX BANK (C.B.N) to your designatd Bank Account. I and one of my
colleague involved in this deal will come to your country to arrange for
our share upon the confirmation from you that the money has been
credited into your nominated Bank Account.

Consequently, upon your acceptance of my proposal kindly confirm your
interest by revert email to me through my email

and
your indication of your sincereity and serious interest to accomplished
this business opoortunity with me, then the procedures of your
operation is needed due to the fact that this deal is not for child's play. It
will surprise you why we choose you and trust you for this
transaction. Yes, we believe that good friends can be discovered and business like
this cannot be realized without trust.

Be further informed that everyone's interest and security had been
considered before you were contacted. So be rest assured and feel free to
go into this transaction with us.

With all pleasure, we are looking forward for your urgent response but
endeavor to maintain the utmost confidentiality required.

Thank you and God Bless.

Best regards,
ABBAS ALIYU."

A little off topic. So don't forget to send them all the bank info of your favorite person.

How about those buy one get one free, just pay shipping and handling. By the time you get to the total the two items cost more then just buying two out right.

My favorite is "free gift".

As opposed to a gift you have to pay for.

it's all psychological

the mind hears what the ears want to hear

and at the mention of the word "free", there are actually some scams that work, even to the brightest of individuals

When I get telemarketing calls I either:
  • Pretend to be rather deaf and/or forgetful [Sorry, what company are you representing?, ad infinitum] and then after 5 minutes tell them that I am not interested.
  • Say 'Oh, yes I saw your company on 'Watchdog' [consumer complaints show in the UK] last week/month/year [as appropriate]'
  • Tell them to 'sod off' plain and simple!

The simple fact is that those tricks only have to work on a small percentage of the population to be profitable.

I wonder what the world must look like to stupid people. Smart people like us are surrounded by lies and scams, but to a stupid person maybe it looks like everyone in the world is so helpful and generous.

Normaly I hang up on telemarketers, but I have witnessed a fellow INTJ ask one what a 'cellphone' was, how long the cord was, and what would happen if he crossed a road while talking on one. Needless to say, ha managed to get the telemarketer to hang up on him.
