You can't like them both-- that throws off the whole stereotype. Jocks like the Who, and stoners like Zeppelin. |

I don't like to limit myself by genre's, so I'll side step that one.
Some of my favourite artists: Radiohead, Sufjan Stevens, Zero 7, Of Montreal, Neil Young, Nouvelle Vague, Nick Drake, Architecture in Helsinki, Elliott Smith, Joanna Newsom, Iron & Wine, The Kooks, The Shins, Tindersticks, PJ Harvey, I Am Kloot, Thom Yorke, Modest Mouse, Pixies, Rufus Wainwright, Coldplay, Jack Johnson, The Decemberists, Echo & The Bunnymen, Bloc Party, Blur, Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes, Hard-Fi, Fionn Regan, Supergrass, Manic Street Preachers, Björk, Paul Weller, Pulp, The Coral, The Libertines, Wolf Parade, Four Tet, British Sea Power, Elbow, Interpol, Buffalo Springfield, Led Zeppelin, Gilberto Astrud, Röyksopp, Turin Brakes, Joni Mitchell, Foo Fighters, N*E*R*D To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. Maybe it's a generational thing or a regional thing, but I've never in my life met a jock who likes The Who. That doesn't even make sense to me. What is jock-like about The Who? Moon was a nut, Entwistle barely spoke, Townshend was a dork and Roger Daltrey used to perm is hair to make it look straighter. Plus thinking of some of their early songs (like I'm A Boy) and imagine jocks listening to it makes me giggle. |

I think you're talking about

When it comes to music I like everything from hard rock to polka. I do admit to having a hard time to getting into rap and country, but there are even a few there I like.
Artists are hard for me as I like someone for awhile then get board with them. The only two exceptions that I can think of at the moment are the Glenn Miller Band and Gershwin. |

i don't know why i'm surprised at the large amount of techno/electronica/electro/trance/etc. types of favorite genres.
i wouldn't expect that...at all. but now that i think about it, it makes sense. music that very few like paired with people very few people understand. makes sense. :] |

Mods and rockers I'm familiar with. I've never heard anything about jocks. I'm not actually familiar with any such breakdown actually existing right now. As for who listened to what in the 60s...well that's not really too important to me since I wasn't even thought of at that point. You definitely don't have to be a stoner to enjoy Led Zeppelin though! |

I like a lot of music, just not the nap time stuff that's played so much on commercial radio. NIN, breaking benjamin, blue october, finger 11 flyleaf rancid ramone linkin park beastie boys. I like mixrap, like linkin park and rehab, epic, etc. celtic, with an extra soft spot for bagpipe solos. Sam Cook, Charlotte Church and old Springsteen.

Old school Metallica, Old school rap, and bit of Techno to round it out. |

Almost exactly the same here, minus Rock for sure... and not so much Jazz either. Vocal Trance and Eurobeat mostly, when it comes to Electronica. Teen pop and cheesy 90's dance music also has a special place in my heart LOL... the INTJ in me just doesn't care what other people think about this. I can go from Miley Cyrus to Linkin Park to Lil' Wayne and Brad Paisley all on the same trip in my car. |

More like
I tend to agree, though I think the Who were quite a "macho" group in a way. They had more raw energy and were more inclined to violence than most bands. I remember seeing an interview where Entwistle said that early on, the crowds were nearly all male. The band used to joke that all the girls were in the back. |

I have a question that sort of goes along with this topic: what is most important to you with regards to music - the music, or the lyrics, or both?
I ask because I have a friend who is an ENFJ and says that he doesn't pay attention to lyrics at all. Me and my INTJ husband talked about this, and we both agreed that to us, lyrics are important. When they don't make sense, we can't just ignore them, and when they do make sense and are good they can totally make an otherwise mediocre melody. I'm drawn to both instrumental music and lyrical music. My husband doesn't really care for instrumental music, but loves really good lyrics. Incidentally, Ben Folds is both his and my favorite musician. |
