So, this mod came out last month. It's humongous and contains a completely new world, so it's more of a standalone game than a mod. Unfortunately, I have thesis work and LSATs this month, so I can't play it, but I'd love to hear if any of you have tried it out.

As much as ES pisses me off, I am looking forward to the next instalment in the series. It does have a lot of potential.

ES doesnt piss me off, Oblivion pisses me off. Morrowind was one of my favorite games.
Im thinking about trying Nehrim but I enjoy my current mods too much. |

ES pisses me off. King's Field spoiled me for first-person action-RPGs. As far as I know I'm in a serious minority.
I wanted to enjoy Morrowind when it came out, but the moment all the enemies suddenly grew twice as powerful a second after I leveled regardless of location totally ruined it for me. That's not the way I like RPGs. It's an interesting concept, and I was finally able to stomach the method as presented in Fallout 3, but in Morrowind it was simply infuriating. Oblivion was in the middle--same thing, I wanted to like it after I upgraded my computer but I just couldn't get into it in the end. I wonder if Bethesda could learn some things looking at the world-organization in the Ultima series? In a way it seems to me like that's at least partially where they're coming from, but they just got it so completely wrong with the last two Elder Scrolls. |

I guess since I jumped into mods soon after playing Morrowind I got fixes for the leveling system. The world and storyline is just too compelling for me. I loved it.

They can take as long as they want for the next installment of ES. I hope it comes out when I'm not busy because morrowind and oblivion took my life away for a good month.

I only played Morrowind on another computer, but now mine sucks too much even for Morrowind... I really want to play Oblivion :P
Never used mods tough... Thanks for sharing that Nehrim thing, whenever I get a better comp I'll download =) |

Looks interesting. I think I may try it, but probably not anytime soon.

I've downloaded this, though I haven't played it yet. I've little time for Oblivion anymore, and anytime I do sit down to it I end up modding instead of playing.

I don't care for Oblivion as much as Morrowind, but I'll download it just in case I ever get through my backlog of 500 or so games I need to play through.
One of the reasons I like Morrowind is that I don't even know what the story is despite having banked over 60 hours into the game. I just make up my own quests and go do them. For instance, I own a castle in Morrowind (self-appointed mission). For me Morrowind is all the good stuff of a MMORPG without all the fucking annoying people (which is just about everyone minus < ~0.1% of the population). |

I agree with most of you; Morrowind is definitely the better of the two, but that's only if you aren't including mods. Besides, there's also the Morroblivion mod available for those who own both games. I couldn't go back to Morrowind with its severely limited combat engine. That said, I'd never play Oblivion without mods again either.

Moroblivion looks promising. I still have issues with Oblivion's "everything is shiny/reflective" vertex and pixel shaders and the hackneyed and hobbled GUI.
Here's a question for Oblivion players : What mods do you think are best beyond the one this thread was about? |

Or the lack of voice acting etc. I tried to play Morrowind again and it seemed crude. But I remember playing Morrowind for 100's of hours and I enjoyed it more than Oblivion. I don't quite understand it except maybe I've completely played it out. The Sword of Peritihia TC was fun when I played it in 2004 or so, however crude its manufacture. |

Well, luckily I speak German
To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. I completely agree that mods are necessary for a good Oblivion experience. While I don't make my own mods, I inevitably end up spending more quality time with Wrye Bash than I do actually playing the game. Ah, the hours spend converting eyes to use the same mesh... The story for Morrowind was definitely better, though. Running errands for a whiny future emperor doesn't do it for me. My list of mods was comparable to Jonathan's when I was playing regularly. The folder size was several times that of a vanilla install, but it was worth it. It still gives me warm and fuzzy feelings... |

I got a ton out of Morrowind and it is, in my humble opinion, the finest RPG ever made. I found Oblivion OK to play through once but otherwise uninspiring. |

I have Nehrim but have not played it much past the initial area. I need to do that before Tax season takes me away for a quarter.

So anyway, I have been playing it and the translation is mostly OK. As it turns out, I usually am too impatient to listen to all the voice acting anyway - I turn on subtitles even if it is in English.
The game is fun, but has a few quirks - they seem to have this thing about using the physics engine to physically locate statues in the centre of circles and things - something that the Oblivion engine really sucks at, resulting in a frustrating experience until you get the knack. It is still very Obliviony since the game mechanics are still there. Group scuffles are still awful since you have no idea who is going to move in front of your weapon. Some Morrowind and Gothic inspiration though. There are some really lame moments (who like fetching cog wheels etc), and some very cool moments too and eye candy better than Bethesda's work in some places. The game remains challenging as you level up unlike Oblivion. Economy wise, you are reliant on alchemy - at least if you want to afford the consumables to allow fast travel. The game mentions at least two quests that don't exist - re Zerobilon and Nexus Halls locations - this sucks. They should at least put a note in the journal text until they are fully implemented. |
