I just tried connecting, and simply got a message that said "No Access" preceded by a few numbers that I presume to be my IP address.

I can't see any reason why I'd be banned from it, having not received any moderator warnings on the site or ever having tried to access the chatroom, so does anyone have any idea why I'm getting this message?

I've tried using both my INTJf username and the default name that the IRC chat gives me, both with the same result.

Have you tried using the Java IRC client?

I hadn't, but that *may* have resolved the problem. Connecting to #intj got me a description containing "Dearest Richard, genius is, in my opinion, a prejorative term" OWTTE. Am I on the right channel?

The chatroom was down today for several minutes, which could have been part of it.

Were you using the mibbit widget through the chatroom page on the forum? People have been finding that they may not always get through on the first try or several. I don't know what it causing the problem, but so far if you keep trying you will eventually get through.

If are connected to a channel and aren't sure if it's the right one, the topic might not help because it will change. What you should look for is the welcome and rules of the channel that will usually scroll onto the screen.

You should be able to click the Chatroom link on any page on INTJf (here) and see the Mibbit client. You should see a Choose a nickname prompt. Enter your INTJf username in the text field below it and click the big green Connect button. Is this what you tried? I just checked and this worked fine for me, but you may be behind a firewall that does not permit TCP/IP traffic through the port that IRC uses, or blocks access to mibbit's web site where the client code is hosted.

If that isn't working, there is a list of standalone IRC clients at the bottom of the chatroom page. You could try installing one of those. There are instructions and pointers in this sticky in Members Only.

I'm on the wrong channel, then. How does the forum username rule deal with spaces? mIRC seems incompatible with usernames with spaces in.

Yes, I was. I tried twice initially, then twice again half an hour later with no success. Should I just keep trying to brute-force my way through?

EDIT: @cannotseethe: Yes, that's what I was trying. I've just tried it again -- no dice. Thanks for the sticky, though; I'll try that now.

FURTHER EDIT: Right, got it now. Thanks, all.

Yep. Try 4+ times. Some seem to have more luck if they use the random mib name that comes pre-generated in the box. Once you get into the channel we can help you change to your forum name.

If you can't get through, can you take a screen shot of the error you are getting and load it so we can look at it?

Apparently no one has gotten around to that one yet.

If someone would like to volunteer and put one together, that would be great.
