If you love wine, then jump in the thread and list your favorites.

I'll start:

Zenato Amarone del Valpolicella (ITALY)
Masi Campofiorin Rosse del Veronese (ITALY)
Hécula Monastrell (SPAIN)

Well, I guess I'll go first...

None, for I don't drink alcohol, never have, and I don't foresee ever doing so. But to those who do, enjoy it, have two, one for you and one for me.

The first one you list, Alphawolf, if too expensive for me, but I'll have to try the other two sometime.

I like cheap wines myself. Around $10 per bottle. The last time I bought wine it was Francis Coppola Rosso. I like it a lot. I enjoy blended reds.

I don't care if it's a cheap wine...

It is extremely difficult to find a better tasting wine than this particular one, even at 5 times the price. It is reserved for special occasions due to the price and that if I drink it all the time then it won't be so special anymore.

Voyager Estate Chardonnay (Magaret River - Western Australia)
Bleasedale Sparkling Red (Langhorne Creek - South Australia)
Peter Lehmann Chardonnay (Barossa Valley - South Australia)

and in general: a good merlot, shiraz, or pino grigio

Hmm.. might have to take a Sunday drive to the D'Arenberg winery on your recommendation Elfrun!

You will not be let down! Ples there's plenty of other wineries around there to compare with, you know, for educational reasons, of course.

They're all great but I especially love the Footbolt (shiraz), the Dead Arm (shiraz), the Galvo Garage (Cab Sauv blend), and the Peppermint Paddock (sparkling chambourcin). I could go on and on and on

Of course, we may also have to consider the appropriate cheeses to accompany all these great wines..!

Do they sell unpasteurised, imported french cheeses in Australia? I know that it's against the law in the USA. Kind of ironic, seeing how Pasteur was a frenchman.

I regularly buy unpasteurised french cheeses, especially Brie. There is a lot of shitty Brie circulating around, but the really good one is called

I believe they're not supposed to sell unpasteurised cheese, but if you look around there are places you can get them.

There are some really nice ones in our district either way, however.

I love wine, but I have too much choice - and too few money - to have real favourite ones.

If they were forbidden, they wouldn't make it through customs.

I have committed the ultimate cheese faux-pas - I just "pointed" the brie.

I love wine and especially wine-tasting at wineries.

But I'm in no way a wine snob. I don't know nearly enough about it or have enough money.

I do aspire to attain a nice collection at my house though someday. I fancy having a library/cigar/wine lounge in my house.

I also thoroughly enjoyed the film Sideways.

I like Francis Ford Coppola's Sofia Riesling, but my wine experience is not vast.

Pretty bottle is pretty!

I saw some Coppola wine while in a really cool cellar while on vacation in Colorado last month. Didn't get any, is it good? My thought process was basically "Huh - Frankie C does wine? He's probably a much better director than winemaker. I'll try this bottle over here I've never heard of.." lol.

My current fave is Barefoot Moscato. I like the sweet wines, can't stomach the dry ones. Too bitter at the present moment. The only red wine I like right now is Livingston Sangria.

Unfortunately I easily get migraine from red wines. Sometimes I try white wines, but at least in my price range, I haven't find anything special yet.

So I prefer sparkling wine, especially cava. To be true, I'd drink only champagne, if possible, but I'm not wealthy enough - yet.

I also like to try organic sparkling wines, but that's because I'm interested in matter, not because of taste really.

With cheeses I like to drink sherry or cava. I love manchego, old gouda, Tête de moine and St. Agur especially. I prefer to use Italian and Swiss cheese when cooking.

I'd love to travel to Southern France for a culinary trip. I'd take some painkillers with me and let myself enjoy all those wonderful red wines.

The only problem you have with red wines is that you don't know the secret of why they give you a headache. It happens with some people, and others are immune to it. It's the tannins that do it. There are red wines that have very low tannins, mostly Italians. French red wines tend to have high tannins, especially Bordeaux.

Try some reds that has very low to no tannins and you will be very surprised.

I'm aware of tannins, but I think I've never studied how to choose wines with less tannins. Thanks for information.

Thanks for the tip!
How does one find out whether a wine has high or low tannins? - Other than through the headache test.

Search wine review websites, or depending on where you live your alcohol stores might provide the information on their website.

Alternatively, once you recognize the taste, you can stop before you get a headache.

Here is a description of how to recognize tannins:

I am not much of a wine drinker, much to elfrun's derision.

However, I have started a mini collection of pinot noirs, which I will be slowly adding to.
