So.....................Are you currently employed?

Options:

1. Gainfully Employed
You have a job. You're not just using it to meet ends meet while looking for another one.

2. Underemployed
You have a job. But it's not really your desired job. You're just doing it to meet ends meet while you're looking for another one.

3. Unemployed
You don't have a job and is looking for one.

4. Not in labor force due to normal circumstances
You're either in school or retired or have too much money that you don't need to have a job. If the economy wasn't in the recession, you still won't be in the labor force either.

5. Not in labor force due to unemployment
You tried to find a job, but can't find any. Now you're discouraged and gave up looking for work. Or you graduated from college but can't find any job, so you decided to go to grad school not because you actually want to go to grad school but just to pass time.

Hmm... not too sure how to answer that one.

I quit my woeful job last week and this week have been in the process of setting up my own business. At the moment I'm waiting for my website to be completed before I can start chasing up clients, so I've been doing some background work (writing articles, developing word games, attending seminars, etc) to implement once I'm ready to go.

Semi-self-employed?

I am in a very similar situation. I quit my job a little under a year ago and I am in the process of creating a freelance business and independent fashion label/blog.

I voted "Gainfully employed," though it's a bit of an overlap with "Underemployed" in that I'm okay with this job, and it does much more than just make ends meet, but at the same time I'm working hard on retiring early. It's not really the same thing as getting another job, though...

Fully Underemployed at job that sucks but comes with good benefits and decent salary. Every few weeks I go from working full time to part hours because there isn't enough work to go around. Instead of living like most people who make my yearly salary do I live like a person of lesser means because I don't know how things can go. Any extra money I take in goes to savings.

No job at the moment. Looking, but I live in a very small town, and there's not many real jobs to even apply for. Even if I got a job, I'd be underemployed and be part-time.
When I get my nursing degree, I'm outta here.

I quit my job two weeks ago. I hope with the next one I will be "gainfully employed" then.

Underemployed...doing gruntwork for decent pay, just enough to keep my head above water while I finish school.

Will be gainfully employed this time next year, at a hospital.

Underemployed for 14 years, with odd short periods of unemployed
gainfully employed for last 10 years.
It seemed that my desire to work was greater than my need for mental stimulation, until I learn't the job then my desire for aleviating the boredom steered my to another job. Is this a typical INTJ characteristic?

I am a "seasonal" employee but my contract keeps getting extended. Which suits me, in truth. I would have balked at "sign away the next year of your life", but weeks or months at a time is doable.

I'm purposefully unemployed. I quit my comfy, get-by, good-enough job, at which I was receiving a comfortable salary in order to work my ass off to go to medical school.

I've never been happier.

Employed at the same job for 23 years. Work 60-hour-weeks because the company won't hire until the economy stabilizes. They did, however, call some back that they laid off a year and a half ago.

1. Gainfully Employed
I'm still in school actually but I'm currently on a work term which I split into two placements. The first of which just terminated but the employer and I have a certain understanding and want to establish an ongoing relationship. I've just completed my training for the second placement. My direct supervisor will be out of the country for two weeks starting when I begin on Tuesday. I'm better at masking my INTJ tendencies than he is. Thus, although he probably doesn't know MBTI too well, he probably views me closer to someone who fits the profile of an ENTP. He probably thinks I'm a cocky SOB that can't back it up. Bwahahaha. Challenge accepted.

I did. Don't know why I wouldn't. It's just another topic.

There's a category for that in the poll.

On the other hand, this morning, the number has gone from 14% to 13%, which points to the sample size still being way too small, which I should have thought of right away (I do have a good knowledge of statistics).

Even though it caught your interest that doesn't dispute the fact that it will appeal significantly more to those who are unemployed.

Which brings up another source of bias, the categories chosen for the poll and the wording used.

Yes, sample size is a problem.

Plus there is additional self-selection bias since many who do click on the thread don't vote (about half so far). Polls on forums are one of the least reliable forms of statistical data.
