What is the general take on MBTI in the US? I live in Hungary and nobody seems to know about it. Even in Europe it does not seem to be much known.

I know the official stuff (I did my research on the Net), but I'm interested in its personal take.
Since when it become popular in the US? How people view it there? Do you discuss it with your class/workmates, or is it just something personal? Is it already an old topic? Etc...

Here in England no-one has heard of it, though I've got one or two people to take the test.
I always wondered about the US too, lots more people I've seen online that are from the US have heard of it (and not just because I see more people from the US online... I mean percentage wise ^^) compared to people from other places.

I like your avatar ^^

There are books with MBTI stuff all over the place, but I've only met a couple people in real life who were familiar with it.

I know that anybody taking a psychology class (usually Intro to Psychology) at least hears the phrase and a brief note on the founder, etc.

Although I can't say if that means a lot of people know about it in the United States or not.

I think personality studies in general are big in the U.S., especially in church I have participated in several personality tests, but there are many of them out there and it wasn't until until psychology class that I learned of the MBTI.

I think society tends to prefer the Global 5 because it measures personality on the socio-psychological level. The MBTI is more of a self-actualization tool, which is what I like about it.

The only times I have encountered it in real life have been in school. In business and engineering classes we have used it to help form groups for projects (eng) and understand group dynamics (bus.).

Actually, I think we used the standard "Type A" (etc) personality test to match people up, but the profs mentioned MBTI and provided links; this is how I first found out about it.
