I buy almost everything besides food on Amazon.com. Sometimes I buy something on Ebay, Newegg, or on rare occasions somewhere else. I don't like shopping at brick & mortar retail stores cuz I don't like shlepping all over the place just to find out that they don't have what I want. Their selection is paltry. I used to love going to art supply stores but they ask "may I help you" every few minutes so I quit.

I only shop for books/electronic things on amazon, but it's great because you don't have to pay sales tax and half the time I get free shipping. Also, I don't like dealing with people and I hate shopping, so it's quite nice. You can avoid all the sales tactics they use to get you to buy more stuff. I love online shopping, no busy ass lines, better availability of products, no families with a thousand crying/screaming kids in your way, the list goes on. It's a win win situation.

I prefer to buy online for the reasons you stated. Plus, you can compare prices, specifications, etc right there. I always laugh when I see a Walmart employee wearing the "May I help you?" vest. I've never met a Walmart employee who could a) speak my language or b) tell me where an item is located.

I can't buy clothes online, though. I have to see them and try them on. So I have to visit a store on occasion.

I rarely buy anything online, but then I'm not really a shopper to begin with. If I buy anything on Amazon.com, it's typically just books.

Well not from Amazon.com in particular, although I do shop there often. I buy just about everything online though. From Newegg to Nordstrom, these days I do my serious shopping online. The selection is far better than what you can find going around to all the local stores. Shopping in person can be so frustrating sometimes, especially if you're after something particular or unusual, and I am the type of person that loves shopping. It's nice getting brand new items neatly packaged and (mostly) untouched. For secondhand items, like jewelry or out-of-print books, shopping online can save a fair bit of time and money. The only downside is waiting for shipping, because I am impatient. I prefer to research everything extensively and cross-compare with every store I can think of, that kind of thing is alot easier to do online. If I'm feeling really ambitious, I even shop in foreign countries online. Most places will deliver worldwide, unless you live someplace too unusual.

What really irritates me lately are those people with booths in the middle of the mall, you know, the ones who pester passersby to try their straightening irons or cell phones or bath salts. I'm not sure if it's just particular to the U.S. or not, but it's an annoying practice that I've encountered at malls across the country. Some worse than others. I'll avoid the mall just for that reason. Pushy salespeople in general are one of the big drawbacks to in-person shopping, I just want to be left alone to shop in peace most of the time unless I am genuinely unable to find a particular product and wish to inquire if it is sold there and its whereabouts. A search field at the top of a website is so much nicer, though. The reviews and recommendations on sites like Amazon help make up for the lack of being able to see the merchandise firsthand. So far I've had really good luck with online stores compared to their real-life counterparts.

I'm trying to remember the last time I bought something other than food or gas, and I'm drawing a blank. Must have been months ago... I get my books from the library (cheaper and no clutter), the Internet and old video games are my entertainment, and I don't really need anything.

That said, if and when I actually need to buy something (that isn't clothing or food or gas), I'll get it from Amazon, if only because I have a small fortune in gift cards that I have yet to use... I hate how slow their free shipping is, though.

I buy almost nothing online. If I do, it is usually only after I have been to a store first and seen whatever it is and then happen to find the same thing online for a cheaper price. Once shipping costs are factored in, that isn't very often. I like to be able to pick up and look at whatever I'm buying before I buy it. Hard to do that online. Plus, I don't like the hassle of having to deal with things that get broken or lost during shipment.

All my entertainment, I buy from Amazon -- unless I happen to be in Wal-Mart and there's a sale of some sort going on. Part of the reason is that I live sixty miles from the nearest city, so it's just more convenient -- plus, I can use gift cards for my purchases. (Swagbucks! It's fabulous for saving money...)

I buy about 20-25 books per year on Amazon, plus, since I got a Kindle, I go back and forth between electronic and paper....bliss...
