I was on a furry forum, and someone mentioned that most furries are introverts. As an INTJ and a furry, I'm wondering if INTJ's are very common in the fandom (or in Internet fandoms in general).

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO! And then some... but I can image my sister (an ISFP) being into that stuff -- totally in to anime, a total Japanophile, art, fantasy, etc. Interestingly, it has been pointed out that the ISFP and INTJ use the same psychological processes in reverse order, explaining why such seemingly different types can be siblings. Any kind of fantasy trips a true INTJ takes part in could be explained to all shadow functions (or inverse self, the ISFP) working at the same time. That's my take on it. Then again, I've never really been into "fandom," and I would have thought true independents wouldn't be either.

I'm not into Furries.
Careful, though, Saabninethree; people can enjoy different forms of entertainment without being non-independent thinkers. I love a good anime/manga. Notice the word "good". Lol. Doesn't make me any less of an INTJ. |

Not interested in being part of any kind of 'fandom'.
Indifferent toward furries. Not bothered what they do with themselves, it's not really any of my business. |

Sorry, "strategically placed holes" aren't exactly my thing. >_>
It's like a paraphilia, right? It's probably not dependent on type, but introverts are less attached to approval so they might go for it before an extrovert would.

Not into "Furry". I never did quite understand the phenomenon entirely myself.

No, you're not a furry because you're an INTJ. How you enjoy furry fandom, however, is through an INTJ perspective.

Luckily, only a tiny percentage of introverts are INTJs.

Not a furry. Always did spark my interest as an outside observer though -- why it would attract people.

Well its very simple, the same way pin ups attracted the past generation because it looked like their movie poster and styles, our generations has grown up around cartoons, anime and anthropomorphic animals or characters, eventually some of us sexualized them & fantasy came into play, and viola, you get furries, furry covers everything from soft to hard core related themes in sexuality, but instead of human ( like regular people and porn ) it uses these drawn characters, in a sense, its just like cartoons, comics & fiction, they are non judgmental, gives you a world where you can be something different, a storyline, and leaves alot to the imagination, some people use it like others use adult magazines, others dress up and role play, its a spectrum of sexual actions just like every other kink & fetish, I enjoy it ( along with alot of other things sexual |

He said he heard most furries are introverts, not that most or many INTJs are furries.
Answering TypeINTJ and Plastikcat Well the name 'furry' has many uses in this issue that I'm not surprised makes regular people confused. (If as a furry I say 'There's furries in the furry who like furry', I'm making three different uses of 'furry'. I as a furry will say 'Disney's The Little Mermaid is a furry movie', something that non-furries would most likely not assert. Meanwhile, non-furries will say 'Furries masturbate to erotic animal depictions', something that furries would most likely not assert.) To understand furry fandom as the subculture it is, we have to travel back to ancient times up to the present. Ancient Egypcians, Greeks, etc., depicted divine creatures in an animal-anthropomorphic way, giving them both human and animal characteristics. When animal anthropomorphism departed from religion, it became customary to continue to use it as a form of entertainment: The Tortoise and the Hare, Little Red Riding Hood, the Monkey King from the Chinese tale A Journey to the West, and more recently Warner Bros.' Looney Toons and Disney's characters. Animal anthropomorphism ('anthropos' is 'human' and 'morphos' is 'form' in Greek) is making up animal creatures with human traits, and for decades and centuries it has been heavily used for the amusement and enjoyment of people. Self-called furries take this trend in a way that it is not simply considered 'a child's thing' as most society views it, but it continues into adulthood. Adults are a more complex demographic, so all forms of entertainment are targeted and satisfied, including: social gatherings, role-play, music, drawing and painting, making comics, sculpture, writing or reading stories or poetry, watching movies, looking at art or collecting art, and of course erotic and sexual gratification, because sex is another form of entertainment. The furry fandom is precisely called furry fandom because it is the fandom of furry, they are fans of animal anthropomorphism (that's what 'furry' means in this context). 'Furries', members of the furry fandom, like animal anthopomorphism, and do activities involving this trend for entertainment, in a variety of ways. Answering Pillowmint I'm INTJ and somehow a furry (member of the furry fandom), but I don't see a strong correlation between introversion and considerably enjoying furry (animal anthropomorphism) or belonging to the fandom. I'd need to see some statistics or some study to take the claim seriously. It's an interesting claim, maybe true maybe false. My FurAffinity profile is user/michael_retriever |

Anthropomorphism and porn are necessary components which inform the art making I want to be doing. On one hand, I don't have a choice in the matter; I share too many sensibilities with furries to argue not being one. On the other hand, I deliberately avoid the fandom, having not participated or showed that aspect of work anywhere, preferring to think of myself as a tinkering outsider. My understanding is that I cannot afford to be a 'fan' if I want to produce things that are actually good, and not ill conceived on the basis of its subservience to ass patting a crappy subculture, even though I'm grateful to be observing it.
Imagine what it'd be like if an INTJ meetup was organized based on who posted in a sexual fantasy thread. Now you know why I wouldn't bother showing up.

Basically, I'd say it's a fetish -- not that I don't have my own -- but I don't think personality type influences type of "fetish," but perhaps involvement therein.

As someone who isn't into furry, but can understand why it would be appealing, I find it really shocking how many people are adamantly against it. This doesnt seem to be a thread on whether or not you are furry, and how perverted you find it, but how introverts and having an anthropomorphic sex life relate. I find it really rude that people are so quick to judge. A persons sex life doesn't make them a lesser person.

I've known a few furries irl, they didn't seem to be introverted in the slightest.

I second this. Some responses don't get past flat-out dismissal, a need for "brain bleach" implying that furries are dirty or wrong.. why reply at all? |

I didn't know furries was a sex related thing, my answer was based on the fact I wasn't likely to be into a fan-scene type culture. Did I completely miss the idea of this thread? I feel so naieve... |
