Is there any way to get a page to automatically refresh every X number of minutes? Or am I just stuck with having to manually refresh the page each time to bring in new posts? I want to be able to post using a 2nd monitor, leave the window up, do other stuff on my other monitor, then look at my 2nd monitor to see if there are new posts. I'm using IE ver. 8.

These are instructions to enable meta refresh in Internet Explorer 7..and should be the same for 8.

I assume I am understanding your request correctly and meta refresh is what you desire.

I checked, and mine does have meta-refresh enabled. Apparently the network I am on overrides this? Otherwise I don't know why it's not working. I'll have to check my home setup later, to see if it behaves differently.

Enabling "Allow Meta Refresh" doesn't cause IE to automatically refresh pages. It just allows web pages that are coded to "meta refresh" (which not many are) to do it.

True, it is not common for most sites to have it enabled. The recommended way is to provide an interaction device, such as a button, to let the user choose when to refresh the content. Another option is using a technique such as Ajax to update (parts of) the website without the need for a complete page refresh, but this would also require that the user has Javascript. Also for an active forum, it can create a lot of needless bandwidth issues to have automatic refreshing.

I do know Firefox has a plugin that can be installed.

Internet Explorer 8 may have something similar that can be installed as well, not certain since these are done by third party developers or the community at large.

Opera has a right click option to "Refresh every ____". Enter a custom option of minutes or seconds or both, from a dropdown menu or enter manually.
