I wasn't sure whether to post this in the social board or here, but I eventually came to the conclusion that this problem belonged here.

My problem is a personal problem and is simply as the title says. I cannot seem to keep a consistent line of thought. I know its a vague statement but allow me to elaborate...

At times my thoughts are as different as night and day. One day I'll feel like I want to be a friendly person whose sole ambition is to make friends and expand my "social network" so to say. The next day ill become a sociopath, plotting vengeance on those who I feel had wronged me in any way. The next day I'd become a complete recluse feeling nothing but apathy for anyone and becoming satisfied with being alone forever.

Every time I "change" I become satisfied with who I believed I had become, and it was fine for some time. But as you can imagine, this cannot go on for long. As I cannot keep a consistent line of thought, I cannot have any consistent progress. I do something one day and deeply regret it the next. Every time its like starting over again and its all about to drive me nuts.

Any help would be truly appreciated.

Maybe what you're going through is just a learning process. You are trying out different ways of viewing the world, and finding what works for you. It can be very tumultuous until you find a mental "place" to settle, and even then I doubt you'll stop exploring new behaviors. I guess an important question is how old you are. Adults go though big changes and learning processes as well, but with teenagers it's often more intense. It might be just a developmental stage.

If you're older, or if your problem interferes with your everyday life, preventing you from doing the things you want to be doing, then you might have a more serious issue.

(I'm no psychologist, so please take everything I say with a hearty bit of salt. It's just a guess.)

Probably should have added that.
I'm 18 years old in college. I did have a couple social problems while in high school but managed to graduate with my head on my shoulders. Honestly, I thought I was passed the phase where I was shifting through personalities.

Wouldn't that be nice, if by 18 we were sorted out?

Well, it could still be personal development. I mean, you can hope! It would mean you'll probably come out of it a more well-rounded person in the end, as long as you keep your head above water. And on your shoulders.

This is exactly what happens to me ALL the time. Ever since I've lived my life I have dealt with these various, for lack of a better term, "mood swings" (though that's not really what they are) on how I treat the world. Unless it is really really affecting your social life, don't let it get to you. Remember you are an INTJ and are simply exploring things from all angles to decide which social mood you should approach today until you find what your preference is. As an INTJ you look at things from all angles to decide which is the best option. This applies to EVERYTHING, even your mindset. Just let it run it's course and at the end of the day truly ask yourself whether or not you enjoyed that type of mindset and list in your mind (or even on paper if you prefer) the pro's and con's of that mindset. There are many different types to consider, which is why you constantly switch. You do so many by the time you've done them all you think you forgot one of them (one of the first ones you did) and do that, thus repeating it over again. If you start to list how they are and go along with them all for a whole day until you come across the same one you've done before, then you'll know when to keep caution and decide which one makes you the happeiest or which one you can try over again.


Hope this helps. I'm not sure if that's how it feels at the end of the day but that's how it works out for me and I keep a record of my mindset so I don't let it control me. Learn to control the moods throughout your day to keep a grip on your mind, and pick the one that suits you the most.
