Hi, I'm an Intern Architect from the States. I was born and raised in Kentucky. I have more Midwestern sensibilities than Southern ones. I attended a land-grant university and graduated with a BARCH in '05. I moved to live and work in Manhattan immediately after graduation and have had the same job (lone assistant in a two-man office) ever since. From my brief lurking, I've found almost every sentiment expressed on this forum intoxicatingly reassuring and invigorating.
I became interested in MBTI and related concerns in college and love talking about it with friends and family whom are interested in it as well - mostly some cousins and a psychiatrist uncle, all of whom know much more than me. My INTJ interests were recently rekindled with speculation of my beloved Cincinnati Bengal's QB, Carson Palmer, playoffs struggles being the result of him having the worst possible "Brain Type" (in athletics assessment jargon) for QB success. Outside of the artistic and design interest that come with my stated Architecture interest, I love sports and comedy and try to take in as much improv and stand up as I can in the city. I play soccer in leagues and play a little basketball and football in pick-up scenarios. I golf once a year. Fun Fact: I've been struck by lightning, in the foot, while inside inside of a detached garage with all of the doors and windows shut. The ER attendees didn't believe me until I put my foot and exploded shoe on their counter. |

Welcome, Lew!
What would you say is the biggest difference between "Midwestern sensibilities," and "Southern sensibilities"? Very cool about the lightning; I hope you saved the shoe for posterity! Enjoy the forum. ![]() |

Welcome to the Alley...
Do you do supernatural stuff since the lightning strike? Like talk to the dead, see the future, watch FOX News? |

A quick indicator of the Midwestern/Southern sensibilities difference came when my boss's wife asked me for my family "biscuit" recipe. I hadn't even eaten them until I got to college and had never eaten them at any family gathering or friends homes until then. Both of my parents families are from upstate New York, so there are no real ties to the South there.
I haven't had any supernatural events, yet. But I was really delighted with the sense of how "OK" I was with everything immediately upon being struck. For a little bit, I thought I was going to die. Maybe it was just the shock, but I did have a really nice sense of having led a great life (as in thankful for how nice it was, not in how I was a singular boon for the earth to have the pleasure of having ) and ever since then I've been generally happier than I was beforehand (I think). It's a nice sentiment to at least trick yourself into believing that you're playing with house money. Also, sometimes if I kick a soccer ball just right it bursts into flames, so there's that. |

Well, if you can't do anything special, what was the point of getting stuck be lightning? You could at least make something up....like you can hear fish talk, or grass scream when its cut, something, anything!
