Oven-fried cod. For dessert we had stuffed, baked apples with maple whipped cream.

I went all out for dinner today. I took some grapes out of the refrigerator, and I ate them.

We had some weird frozen pasta thing. It had asparagus (that wasn't awful!), tiny shrimps, and some red peppers. And a salad. It said Butter Salad on the bag. Things with butter in the title that don't really have butter in it confuse me.

Plotthickens: I'm not sure I understand. Were there any mushrooms on that pizza 8D?

Tonight we're having french chicken in a pot (aka casserole chicken) - succulent, moist flesh with little work, I highly reccommend it; sauteed zuccini & green beans with some oyster sauce for zing and... oh... probably orzo. And banana nut bread for dessert.

What are you having?

I'll trade your chicken and fixings for our Kentucky Fried Chicken and fixings. But already had a banana nut muffin for breakfast.

Butter lettuce is a type of lettuce -- there are looseleaf, romaine, and butter types. All butter type lettuces have a different mouthfeel and growth pattern.

And yes. Just a few mushrooms. I must now go take a shroom bath. I'm a little addicted... and now that I know about maitake....!

Huh. Never knew that about butter lettuce (did know it was a type of lettuce though, even if vegetables are an arch enemy). It's just...butter salad sounds so very unappetizing. I feel it's a marketing flaw.

But anyways, my point is: why name it butter lettuce? The same thing goes for butter beans and butter chicken!

Be careful you have enough shroom in that tub!

P.S. Maitake mushrooms are perfectly omnomnommable. Texture and taste are just splendiferous~

Butter lettuces have less lignin in their cell membranes and less ribbing, making (generally) for a need for higher internal pressure from liquids to keep them upright. In mouthfeel, they have more 'burst' and are smoother and more hydrating, but not nearly as much 'crunch' as, say, romaine types. They are... buttery.

Have you tried tree oysters? They are sooooo easy to grow on the shady side of a house! And nearly as good as maitake.

And... don't ever, ever, ever undercook maitake. ick.

...hm. I can see, er, taste that...sort of. Oh Julia Child and Paula Dean, I blame the both of you for my refractory mind when it comes to the term butter XD

MMMMM. YES. Oyster mushrooms are AMAZING. Especially in sukiyaki~

Oh dear :x I'm guessing they're not as forgiving as say, portobellos.

To taste? More. To grow? More. Portobellos are secondary decomposers, oysters are primaries. So you can grow oysters on nearly any dead veg matter (stumps, wood chips, and hay are good), but portos (and cremini and buttons, all are same strain) only grow on finished compost. Too much work, say I, pfeh.

Iiiiii think I might've been unclear. I was referring to you undercooking your maitake. I've never cooked any myself (just had them in a restaurant), but I have cooked (more importantly, undercooked) portobellos and they were still decent to eat. Maitakes don't sound so forgiving when cooking them.

But pfeh indeed. I can't bring myself to make even the simplest garden. Hell. I can barely take care of my aloe plant. Scorched the poor thing by leaving it out in the sun during a heat wave >>;

Ah, got it!

Undercooked maitake taste like the worst nasty moldy copper penny you've ever had the misfortune to taste. UGH ARGH BLARGH.

Tried a money plant? They like indirect sunlight and are delighted if you ignore them for a week or three, if they're in a self-watering container.

...could mold feasibly grow on a penny? I'm going to try this when I get back to school >D

RETURNING TO REALITY. Money plant you say? If I name is Jackson will it grow what I hope it to :D? And man, you're almost like a gardening book with your plant knowledge!
