What do you guys eat on a regular day?
How much do you think that affects your quality of life?
How often do you guys eat?
Do you even remember to eat? (happened to me alot back in the day.)
How knowledgeable are you about what you eat? (do you just eat whatever or do you have a reason to eat what you eat?)

As a rule, I have a pound of beans a day. Don't diss, beans are an amazing food I've found out. Stable insulin levels are vastly underrated. The past few days that I've done that, my quality of life has improved sooo much that its hard to believe that adding one food item did it.

I always have steamed vegetables. Steamed broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts are my preference at the moment. They add in a little, I dont notice that much of a difference when theyre in my diet or not.. all that hype about vegetables... Though, I take a MASSIVE multivitamin, Animal Pak.

Preworkout, I'll either have a cup of steel cut oats or some beans. The pump is amazing and I have sooooo much energy for the workout. Alot better than preworkout supplements.

I try and have at least half a sweet potato a day as well, usually in my steamed vegetables. Another amazing food, that I do notice when its not in my diet.

Nuts are also a huge part of my diet. Walnuts, pecans, almonds, peanut butter all give you amazing energy first thing in the morning.

Meat used to be a large part of my diet, but with the addition of beans, I dont even see or feel the need for it anymore...

Yes, I'm passionate about food. I'm going to be a personal trainer and nutritionist (getting my license now, YEAH!) so it goes along with the job.

What about you guys?

This would be roughly a list of foods that I eat on a daily basis though preparation and cooking varies.

Wheat germ with steel-cut oats, quinoa, or brown rice
DHA-fortified milk, omega 3 eggs
Strawberries or raspberries
Blackberries or blueberries
Chicken breast
Broccoli
milled flax seeds
Banana
Kiwi
Tempeh
Sweet potato w/skin
Collard greens, mustard greens or kale
Tomatoes
Asparagus
"aromatic" vegetables (garlic, onions, celery, carrots, etc)
Olive oil, coconut oil

During the winter I'll take a small amount of cod liver oil too.

I am extremely conscious of what I eat, and what I put into my body in general. And I have found that (at least for me personally) what I eat has a MASSIVE effect on how I feel, both physically and mentally.
I was a vegetarian from about 1995 through last year (give or take a few months here and there), and the only reason that I'm not anymore is because I developed an iron deficiency and reverted to eating chicken, and the (very) occasional piece of beef (as well as a daily iron supplement).

Typical foods I consume on a daily basis:

organic vegetables/greens (I eat a lot of spinach, salads, all sorts of vegetables, etc)
whole grains (bread, pasta, brown rice, oatmeal) I eat virtually nothing that is white/refined in terms of carbs.
granola/cereals
almond milk
avocados
tomatoes
occasional berries or banana, but not much fruit on a daily basis
tempeh (no tofu anymore)
eggs (organic, free range)
chicken (organic, if possible)
fish (salmon is my preferred fish)
high-quality yogurt

water, water, and more water!!
And I do drink coffee, but aside from one cup a day and social drinking once in awhile, water is all I drink.

supplements:

"greens" powder (spirulina, chlorella, broccoli, etc)
probiotics (Align)
iron
multiple vitamin
biotin (5 mg)
flax oil

I also try to exercise at 5-6 days a week for 45 minutes to one hour, but I do get lazy sometimes, and with my work schedule (and commute) it's hard to fit in since I despise gyms.

This morning:

organic thick cut oatmeal
ground flaxseed
bee pollen
scoop of whey protein
coffee with soymilk

for lunch today:
leftover chicken breast
steamed asparagus
1/2 leftover baked sweet potato (not yam)

dinner will be:
homemade chicken vegetable soup with collard greens, fennel, and leeks
short grain saffron brown rice

various little nibbly snacks:
cheeses, apple, wheat thins, glass of wine

I'm an epicure, and today is a great day, I've got garlic roasting in the oven, soup stock simmering on the stove, and rice cooking. The house smells divine, the music is great, and this is the best way to spend a snowy day.

My SO is going to have it real good.

How much do you think that affects your quality of life?
It affects my life greatly. Good food is a pleasure before a necessity for me.

How often do you guys eat?
5 x a day

Do you even remember to eat? (happened to me alot back in the day.)
There's no way I could forget to eat.

How knowledgeable are you about what you eat? (do you just eat whatever or do you have a reason to eat what you eat?)
Very knowledgeable both in the nutritional value and the culinary value. Food is a passion for me.

Apples and bananas. Whole grain wheat bread and honey. Lots of tea and water. Cheese, some pastries and some meat every now and then. (My freezer is tiny, so I'm an accidental vegetarian in that respect.) That's about it...

Generally don't have breakfast (anything consumed before mid morning tends to make me feel nauseous), but from mid morning I will generally eat:

a few portions of whatever fruit is in season (and usually a banana in that)
nuts
salad in summer (leafy greens such as spinach, tomatoes, avocado, cucumber, capsicum, mushrooms, etc..)
a portion of dairy (cheese or natural yoghurt)
plenty of veges in the evening (potatoes, brocolli, carrots, pumpkin, asparagus, corn on the cob, onions, beetroot)
fresh herbs
a portion of meat (chicken, pork, beef), although I do try for at least 1 or 2 vegetarian days where I will substitute beans/legumes
rice or pasta once or twice a week
1 square of good quality chocolate

I try to get as much variety as possible.

Weekends I'll indulge in treats - such as homemade pizza, cheese & crackers, icecream, etc. By keeping these sorts of foods for the weekends it helps keep them as treats and helps keep my diet fairly healthy. I also tend to make almost everything from scratch and don't have much pre-packaged, processed food in my house, so I can't stomach TOO many treats - a little bit is just enough.

I'll graze through the day, but since starting work again have definite lunch and dinner breaks, however I will only eat according to how hungry I am.

As far as quality of life, not only do I much prefer a diet full of fresh, whole foods (they really do taste so much better!), it also keeps my system running efficiently. Too much crap tends to make me feel bloated and sluggish.

I love to learn about food and was considering becoming a dietician - unfortunately, I don't have the luxury of studying right now, but who knows.... maybe down the track...

I have fairly unchanging eating habits, except for when I eat out. I like variety in food, but am somewhat picky and haven't tought myself enough recipes that I like to introduce variety through means other than ordering different foods that I like.

Ingredients in rough order of first being eaten in a daily routine:

Wheatabix, milk, eggs, omelette, broccoli, fiber rich sourdough bread, ham, butter, orange juice.

There's all sorts of other food I eat, but that's mostly from what others cook at family dinners. At least I've got most of the basic nutritional requirements in the fixed parts of my routine.

type o diet: yesterday, 4 hardboiled eggs and goat cheese, catfish and green beans for lunch (catfish not on the diet, but i'm a slacker); hot dogs and sweet taters for supper. peanut butter and ezekiel bread for late evening snack. had two 'ensures' yesterday, as it keeps my sugar from tanking in between meals.

My daily diet:

(Ok, today I just had Tempura for breakfast- at least its veggies! I need to go grocery shopping).

Granola cereal, cereal bar, or bagel
almond milk, rice milk, soy
lots and lots of tea
lots of veggies (worst would be my tempura addiction right now), peas, corn, carrots
whole wheat pasta salads
every couple of days a meat/fish
nuts to snack on
lots of fruit (mainly because I feed my Parrots fresh fruit daily including veggies and greens like kale)

yesterday I shared a multi grain bread with all my animals....everything in moderation

Oh, I do take supplements because I am sure I do not eat enough daily servings my body needs. I dislike cooking...rather be locked in my office drinking tea and sitting on my computer or studying. It's strange I don't have cravings much I just eat when I look at the clock and know my body might need to be fed...or when I go to feed the animals.

An excessive quantity of refined carbohydrates (pasta, breads) and an inadequate amount of green vegetables and fresh fruit. I attempt to compensate for this disbalance by supplementing.

I've been sick the last few days, but here's what I've had today:
1/4 cup whole milk
20 Saltine Crackers
1 cup rice pudding

Normally I'd have:
2 cups soy milk
1 cup spinach
1 cup broccoli
1/2 cup strawberries
1 banana
2 kiwi
1 cup V-8
then whatever I can scrounge up for dinner, not too much usually

What do you guys eat on a regular day?
Usually, but not lately (see below why)
Breakfast: Cereals + almonds + raisins + whatever fruit I have available + soy milk (but not a rule)
Lunch: any kind of soup.
Dinner: Fish + green beans (I'm always on a quest to finding the best recipe for green beans as side dish) + red beets salad + steamed carrots + corn + etc. (The more colorful the food is, the healthier)

How much do you think that affects your quality of life?
A LOT

How often do you guys eat?
I don't count.

Do you even remember to eat? (happened to me alot back in the day.)
I love to eat. :embarassed:

How knowledgeable are you about what you eat? (do you just eat whatever or do you have a reason to eat what you eat?)
Usually very knowledgeable, but dealing with a full time job and almost full time college I'm lucky to even grab something to eat: whatever, whenever (*cough cough* McD).

It is said that beans and rice together create a complete protein.

Have you heard of hazelnuts? Yum ... my favorites.

I can replace meat with fish at any moment.

I'm passionate about food myself, I just wish my life and schedule wouldn't be so hectic right now so that I could concentrate a bit more on living healthy. To me it's like a full time job.

Damn. I thought I had a pretty good routine going, but these posts are really detailed.

Generally have lots of vegetables - broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, bell pepper, zucchini, egg plant, sugar snaps, mung beans, basic potatos. Many of these I strongly prefer raw, though I tend to boil/fry them a little bit when I'm home late and don't feel like chewing for three hours

In a given week, I'll probably supplement my vegetables with noodles, rice or pasta once or twice.

In terms of fruit, mostly bananas and orange juice.

Nuts: peanuts and almonds, mainly.

I barely use dairy, but lately I've been having regular milk (over soy) in my coffee more.

I eat pretty much the same stuff all the time. Red meat, eggs, potatoes, chicken, tomatoes, peanut butter, salmon, spinach, broccoli, spaghetti. I snack on popcorn, nuts and pretzels. I drink coffee and vitamin water. Of course I eat other stuff but that's the core diet.

I like to eat twice a day. Something in the morning around 10 and then dinner between 4 and 7, depending on when I get hungry. I never eat unless I am hungry.

I forget to eat all time. Sometimes I get in bed and realize I haven't eaten since breakfast and then I have to go eat something.

Everything I eat is fresh, very fresh and organic if I can get it. Nothing processed and absolutely nothing with high fructose corn syrup.

Reason? I like the way it tastes!

Have been aiming for the neolithic diet for the past 3 weeks, I know I fall short in a lot of points, but this is a vast improvement over what I was eating a year ago (Take away chinese food........save me.....aieee!).

bacon, eggs, mushrooms and onion.

mixed lettuce, cucumber, capsicum, red onion.

beef, chicken, fish and sometimes salmon.

sweet potatoes, potatoes, carrot, pumpkin, zuchinni.

nuts,

olive oil,

dark chocolate,

trying to cut out:
dairy, sugar,

have cut out:
grains, cereals, refined sugar, soy.

Hmm, I've been experimenting with eggs recently. I feel amazing when having 6-9 a day. I think I might give this a week and see how it goes, if I gain weight or not. I'm hoping I do.

Beans, eggs, oatmeal, nuts, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, bananas, tangerines, sweet potato. Got about a week of this left, then I need to get another grocery list going. As a general rule I never eat the same vegetables 2 weeks in a row. Variety is supposed to be beneficial, and I've seen nothing but beneficial things from doing so.
I'm thinking beans, eggs, oatmeal, mustard and turnip greens, squash, brussel sprouts, bananas, nuts, spinach and kale for next time.

I have terrible nutrition and don't particularly notice what I eat or when; I eat only to survive and don't take much joy in food. I drink huge amounts of milk and coffee. I'm really healthy and cheerful, for some reason.

Blood type O diet with no/very little dairy of any kind. No distilled alcohol either. No diet realistically nourishes the body so I take LOTS of supplements, but more so for my mind. Over the last 5 years I've went through periods of strict diet to not giving a shit at all and I never noticed much change. I did notice a positive change after I gave up dairy however. I would love to give up all wheat products, but I feel like a heroin addict or something because it seems impossibles. I eat lots of meat and I like a lot of vegatbles that I no longer will eat because of the type O diet. I found oatmeal to be a good replacement for cereal. I've also restricted myself from pork products when I can resist. I would eat a lot healthier if I could actually maintain my kitchen and kept supplies in stock. More often than not I just go into a grocery store and grab something from the deli.

I recently cut out all trans fats, so no more tv dinners, twinkies, pot pies, frozen pizza, fast food, or cupcakes. I'm already feeling better from doing that. It takes 2 years to get all the trans fat out of your system after you stop. I wasn't eating a large amount of trans fats but I was eating some, since it's in so many processed foods. Those damned labels lie. They say 0 grams trans fat, but there's hydrogenated oils in the ingredients. Even the freaking margarine labels say 0 gram trans fat, which is such B.S. I heard KFC stopped using trans fat, so I think I will buy some of that occasionally. I won't go to Carl's junior anymore. I used to use their coupons occasionally. Trans fats are the primary thing that's been clogging people's arteries for the past few decades and causing a variety of other diseases and making Americans unhealthy. It's the worst thing you can eat.

I'm phasing out caffeine. I stopped buying rockstar energy drinks and I'm gonna stop drinking tea and coffee. I have a lot of tea. I might throw it away.

I'm also avoiding MSG.

Soy products are another crock of B.S. The soy bean industry put out this propaganda that soy products are healthy, but they're actually bad for you. Soy products are garbage. It's just like how they said margarine was healthier than butter, but it turned out it's a lot worse than butter because of trans fats.

And the cereal industry put out propaganda that breakfast cereal is healthy, but it's one of the unhealthiest things you can eat and it's totally unnecessary in your diet.

There are some unhealthy things about milk, but the milk industry says "it does a body good" in their advertising campaigns.

Do you see a pattern here? Various food industries have sold us very unhealthy crap and lied to us, telling us that it's healthy and good for us through advertising campaigns. Then later on we find out it's really unhealthy and causes diseases. They tell us these things are healthy just so they can sell more of them. They find some awful crap they can produce cheaply and profitably. Then they heavily doctor it up through very complicated chemical processing to make it taste good. Then they sell it to us as being good for us.

What do you guys eat on a regular day?

What I ate today...
Cup of hot tea
1.5 cup honey bunches of oats/1 cup 2%milk (though I prefer eggs, toast, fish, or oatmeal)
1 pack Romain noodles.
1 large carrot
3/4 cup mandarin oranges
slice of cantalope
cup of yogert and straw berries.
cup of Baked beans
2 beer battered fish fillets
dish of spagetti and 2 slices wheat bread
1 oz whey protein isolate
1 cup milk
1 cup orange juice
2 cups potato soup
peanut butter and jelly sandwich on wheat
Banana
Multivitamin
1000 mg C
Water
2 Keeflees
1 oz walnuts

How much do you think that affects your quality of life?

I think/hope it has a positive affect far above certain other common American diets.

How often do you guys eat?
Do you even remember to eat? (happened to me alot back in the day.)

I try to remember, I prefer to eat before I feel hungry. I find that even though I am 5'8" 140 lbs, I get very hungry if I don't have a meal every 2-3 hours, Which is about 5-7 meals a day.

How knowledgeable are you about what you eat? (do you just eat whatever or do you have a reason to eat what you eat?)

I do have a few reasons for my diet.

It is high in protien and carbs, fat is of no real issue to me. I am an ectomorph that is always after some more muscular mass. I also like a lot of fruits and veggies in my diet as I like to get my vitamins, minerals, and various other goodies. I do that because I value a good immune system and I am paranoid about getting cancer.
