I am wondering: What is the relationship, even if only correlation, between being an INTx and having a paranoid disorder?
By paranoid disorders, I am referring to bipolar with paranoid/delusional tendencies, as well as schizophrenia. I make a distinction between bipolar with hyperactive and self-control issues and bipolar with paranoid and delusional tendencies; the two have very different characteristics. I am an INTP, and have a bipolar disorder that is almost unipolar in the paranoid manner. It occurs to me that an INTx may be more likely to have such disorders. It is my understanding, purely from my own psychological self-analysis, that paranoid disorders in some part stem from an over-ability to analyze random data and find patters. A sort of in-grown tendency for confirmation bias, I suppose. The INTx sits alone, watching the watchers watch them. I have already gathered anecdotal evidence that paranoid disorders are more common among INTPs than the general population. What is the relationship between them and the INTJ population? To what severity are you, or the people you know, paranoid? |

Thanks for the link, but there's a flaw. Schizoid personality and schizophrenia have next to nothing to do with each other. Schizoid personality is an extreme detachment and lack of interest in interpersonal relationships. While this certainly resembles an extreme INTP personality, it's not what I'm talking about. |

Sometimes I get very paranoid/anxious for seemingly no reason. I'll wonder if people can hear my thoughts, or interpret them through my subtle behavior in correspondence to the external stimulations in the situation. That in turn will cause me to analyze what Im doing even more, which further escalates the anxiety. Usually what I get paranoid about is people reading my ulterior motives and insecurities(unexistant most of the time), and I in turn try to read theirs as well, and it is like the whole situation becomes more like an intense poker game than a social relation. But usually when I try to tell people what Im thinking about, they don't grasp it anyways. Or maybe they are just acting like they don't know..Damn. Thats where the paranoia comes in again.
A shot or two of hard liqour and 5 minutes alone usually alleviates it, and I can keep from falling back into the loop again. If I were to label myself with personality disorders, I'd say I show a lot of signs of bi-polar disorder and schizotypal pd with narcissistic tendencies. At the higher end of my mood, Im a very talkative and creative ENTP, and when Im at my lowest, I seem to be a depressed, paranoid, anxious INFJ. On the rare occasions that Im actually "myself", Im a typical INTJ. |

I think Alchool doesn't take anybody anywhere. It's just giving up.
Personally, to deal with that kind of situation, I prefer trying to lead the discussion and avoid anxiety trigging matters or mislead others: if they start making too wrong/ too right judjements about you, it's time to overflow them: sooner or lather they will stop trying. That, at least, works for dealing with the ordinary unpurposeful talking mass of human organic tissues and fluids in vaguely humanoid shape; when I really want to be understood without fake ulterior motives, I use straight speaking rid of value judgements (notice: people is not used to avoiding value judgements, so if they don't know you they will start thinking you are some kind of fanatic). Well, the five minutes alone solution is often the most affordable; but the liver thanks if the glass is filled with plain water. |

yea paranoia's been bothering me too, what can I say? I didn't do as much research as you guys but I made plenty of daily observations and I believe it's worse to be paranoid and not knowing it. if I go trough anxiety and the whole unhealthy thoughts I use down to earth and comparative views to calm down; no one's better, northing's wrong if the world's going down, must not try so damn hard all the time! we're all breathing the same air, die the same death, why bother?

In myself, I have not seen this disorder. I do not get paranoid or anxious, and for the most part I am relatively unconcerned with most things. I think this comes from the strong sense of will that is commonly associated with many INTJs, which then manifests in my seemingly arrogant persona when it is merely my own self determination and confidence in my own abilities.
However, what personality disorders I do tend to show are an (increasingly) disjointed social awareness. I have a difficult time understanding other people's concerns or emotions, sometimes being confused as to why people feel a certain way or feel at all. I believe that many people get worked up over trivial matters while neglecting important issues. This seems to show a definite lack of empathy because of my inability to relate to others, especially those that I do not have no contact with. |
