Ok so it's this girls' b-day today, and we've been friends for a good while now.

Thing is she wants to go clubbing all night. And I can't stand dancing (big surprise)

Anyway I'm going anyway, so what do I do to not be lame?

In my experience, I've more often than not been a fantastic purse and jacket guardian while everyone else dances. (I have the same problem. Dancing is irrational, useless and strange.)

Just make sure that you are also drinking so you don't seem like the proverbial 'stick in the mud', but rather someone who will do the dirty work. To take it to the next extreme - be the designated driver. Nobody expects the DD to have any fun.

I'm 19...

And although this usually isn't a problem, the friends are pretty straight arrow

Oh.

You're fucked, then.

Just get out of your head. (which is like telling the sun to stop shining) but it's all I have.

Donīt be a chicken. Challenge yourself!

Can you make it easier upon yourself by going somewhere where they play music that you like.....at least once in the hour?

1. Try to imagine the worst thing that could possibly happen.
2. Calculate the odds of it actually happening.
3. Get off your computer and just do it.

Thank you all for the help, but I think I won't be going.

Chances are that I'll make an ass of myself in front of her friends, and we all know a girl=her friends.

She already understands that I don't like that kind of environment anyway.

You can go and have a few drinks with her (it is her birthday and she wants to spend time with you), then leave before the hard partying starts.

For god's sake. Suck it up and go.

If she is important to you, her feelings will be hurt if you don't go. It is her birthday, her day, today it is all about her, not you.

Smile, nod and dance the slow dances with her. Don't worry about what her friends think, if she was worried she wouldn't have invited you.

Relax, no one will probably notice how weird you feel anyway.

I didn't realize there that many clubs that let 19 year olds in.

Anyway, just go, you'll have fun. Play pool or something. Order a coke and some french fries. Dance with your friends, dance with a cute boy. Pay $5 and ride the bronco.

I think it was a college thing, you can get in just can't get drinks.

Anyway, I went, but it was pretty uneventful. Like I said she is just a friend and I was trying to be nice, nothing more than that. Also I am totally straight, so no "cute boys"

I do in the way that I am very short on cash, and shouldn't have gone.

But other than that, no.

I came here too late... I was going to suggest you wear sunglasses and pop your collar. Also, a cigar might have helped too.....

Oh come on, dancing at clubs is easy. You just look at other people and imitate the ones who dance well. I find it quite enjoyable (as long as I don't have to do it too often).

How do you judge who flops around pointless well? I never could, excepting females being sleazy which isn't really about dancing but still gets old quick.
