I have been addicted to red lipstick since I was able to buy a tube. It's my power color, my swagger and a confidence booster. I have large lips and painting them red makes them a bit larger. I don't care. Historically, red lips are a statement. I sell make-up and they have excluded true red from the entire line. The line polls women across the country and changes according to the results. As a result we lost, red salsa, currant, firecracker red, and true red. It has been replaced by a shade of red that is actually more purple. It ain't red. Is Red dead?

As a guy, I hope not. When applied just right, red lipstick looks incredible... on women... not me.

I doubt it. Besides my personal like of red lipstick (as Nemesis said . . . on women, not on me), I read an articale last week in NewScientist about red being a (in your words) power color. It seems to definitely have a psychological effect on others that can give you an advantage in certain situations. I suspect if there is any truth to that, red will be around for a long time to come.

I like red with a tiny bit of blue in it, because fire engine or candy apple red makes my super-pale, bluish skin look sallow. But I don't wear true red all that often- my mouth is medium sized, I guess, but intense red seems to make my mouth appear smaller, because it defines it so starkly.
The closest to red that I wear is usually Clinique Black Honey. I used to know a girl who wore red MAC Lipglass. That is intense, definitely an attention getter. From your description of your features and complexion, I'll bet red is a knockout on you. Who cares about the trends. I can't see red lipstick ever becoming like "powder blue eyeshadow" always was when I was growing up. Red lipstick is too classic. |

Magazines publish whatever they can to get a rise out of people, and trends are fleeting. Every color has a psychological effect on people; red is one which grabs attention, symbolizes power, and makes people oblivious to the passing of time.
It'll be around until humanity transcends its susceptibility to the effects of color. I don't see that happening any time soon. |

Red lipstick always looked like a bit a joke on me (I'm quite fair skinned and haired). But I have noticed a prevalence in darker lipstick shades. Perhaps people think they look more serious?

I absolutely love that color. I usually don't pay too much attention but it's one of the few shades I actually seek out. |

I think it's more of a formal look but any statement can look pretty killer when it's made at the right time.

Red lipstick tends to look bad and slutty. Some people can pull it off, though. Then again, what do I know? I only wear stage makeup.

I love red lipstick, but I have yet to find a shade that suits me. Apparently pink reds are supposed to suit everyone, but they look hideous with my skin tone.
