person who reads books all day in bed and gets paid for it. actually working at a desk doing this very thing is not satisfying in the least.

King of the world.

Who also does a side line in psychotherapy in a Zen complex with many Zen gardens and a Starbucks on site with nice staff.

The peace and calm would be interrupted only once daily with the twelve noon libertarian-capitalist being thrown in the lion pit.

Dream job? Mad scientist/engineer with all the equipment I could ever want and a team of highly intelligent people with complimentary personality traits and skill sets. Oh, the places we'd go...

*sigh*

In a book called Armed Humanitarians: The Rise of the Nationbuilders by Nathan Hodge, the author talks about a proposed group, possibly attached to the State Department, whose mission is to go into failed states and begin the process of building the institutions necessary for a free, civil society. I think being involved with such a group in some capacity would be incredibly interesting!

Mine's actually something I'm working on realizing: new age shop owner.

I love new age shops.

I love all the books full of wishywashy bs. It's better than standup comedy for me.

I like reading tarot cards and runes for people. It's a way for me to tell them my opinion without looking mean "hey, ma'am don't shoot the messenger. I don't decide what they say, I just tell you what that is" and since my responses are based on common sense and what they already know, it's no wonder my advice works. If they want to pay me. An astronomical amount to dress up like a Gypsy and tell them what they already know, well step right up and make sure your wallet is accessible.

I collect all that stuff anyway. My house is filled with statues of deities I don't believe in and worship tools for rituals I will never perform. All the stuff I love will be easily accessible and cheaper for me. Win - win.

I can also sell homemade soaps and candles with rituals I make up and have a workshop in the back where I can experiment and make stuff. I'll hire some goth girl with an ironic blue mowhawk (so she can be an individual like everyone else in the same uniform with the same hairstyle) to work the counter so I don't have to talk to anyone. Plus, I'll have an excuse to wear corsets and long skirts to work, which I've always wanted to do.

If that doesn't work out I suppose I'll go to school to be an airline pilot.

Fantastic. Just fantastic. You could throw in some joke books amongst the wishwash just to troll if you felt so inclined... or some DVDs of standup comedy routines.

This topic is very relevant to me, because I've almost completed my bachelor and I still have no idea to which career I should pursue.

If I could become anything in the world I'd choose one of these professions:

- Writer. I may pull this off in the long run, I just have to practise more and read more on subjects I like. I'd like to write both novels and popular science books. Making fantasies concrete is one of the most fun things I can think off.
- Rock star. Too bad I have no talent in composing riffs, but creating awesome songs and have a wild crowd at your disposal? I'd sign to this 'job' any day.
- Pathologist. This will never happen, but I think it's awesome to solve 'human puzzles'. Plus you possess enormous amounts of knowledge of the human body, which is something I higly value.
- Philosopher or theologist. Not only would I love to create a new system of thought, I would get a lot of satisfaction in achieving a group of followers who see me as a wise person.
- Artist. Same motivation as the writer job, but I can't draw/paint/sculpt for shit.
- Dictator. Becoming a human god? Hell yes. Not that this is a realistic option (

), but it's too bad I despise the practical sides of politics. I guess I would be one of those ear-whisperers, haha. Just kidding though - I would live under constant paranoia.
- Historian. I actually study history right now, but my grades aren't good enough to go into the whole research thing. I could have pulled it off though, but I always have private projects running (reading etc) that interfere with my study. Father Time isn't benevolent to me - I wish I could become 1000 years old and suck up as much knowledge and wisdom as possible.

After watching a few episodes of Cake Boss today, I really wanted to make crazy cakes for a living.

Nice. I thought I wanted to be an ice crab fisher after I saw Deadliest Catch. :D

something to do with food...taste tester, product developer, product buyer...as long as I don't have to write public reviews so then everyone rushes to that place and they can up all their prices and lose their standard of food and service.

I'd like to be able to utilise the fact I have a very discerning palate...and team it up with travelling to where ingredients and products are grown and sourced and talk to the farmers etc...I want to KNOW what is going into food these days!

I used to want to be a scientist, then I realized that academic scientific research is poorly paid, expects ridiculously long hours, carries little job security and is mostly a matter of luck as to whether you actually make any important discoveries. Worst of all, there's an implication that you should feel incredibly grateful to be allowed to work under these awful conditions.

I like the work I do now, freelance copywriting. It's still poorly paid and offers no job security, but it's easy and I can take time off whenever I want to. I guess my dream job would be to get paid for my creative writing, i.e. become a published author. The nature of the work would be identical, only the content of what I wrote would be different.

Failing that, I wouldn't mind working in some aspect of computer programming, if I ever get around to bringing my skills up to scratch.

Mailperson in an actual social democracy.

edit: Wait. No. Just living in a community where the notion of "job" is virtually moot.

- pilot (too bad I have poor eyesight)
- own my own bakery
- mercenary

Dictator.

And that's not a joke. I daydream about taking over a country all the time. I think I would be a good dictator, I would create a benefactor state that no one could mess with. But then the problem comes with a successor ... ?

I'd love to be a video game designer. I have a lot of ideas written down and researched to the tiniest detail. I could write stories, do the necessary research and even do some art design, 3d design and even level design.
