Hello all you INTJs out there... I recently took the test and discovered that I am an INTJ as well, obviously. It's amazing how accurate the description of personality is, and it seemed to pinpoint me very accurately. It's depressing, though, in some regard. You see, I've never really found anybody who can see eye to eye with me and know exactly what I'm talking about and where I'm coming from, which usually just leads to people humoring me when I make statements. In any case, even though I saw these traits in the INTJ description, when I found that there was this forum and that there are a lot of INTJs, I realized that perhaps my isolation/unique thinking goes even deeper than what this test can describe. I made this conclusion because I've never actually met someone who is exactly on the same page I am, who's thinking with me rather than trying to decipher me. So, as I was saying, the test results are depressing because even though it seems to put me into a category (and it seems very accurate) I still can't help feeling as though there's not really a category for me, unless I am the only one in the category. What do you think? I sincerely hope you can prove me wrong, as I would rather enjoy some conversation. Be forewarned, though... I'm not very competent at small talk. Well, that was longwinded. Hopefully I didn't scare anyone away, although I imagine that's wishful thinking, as I spent the better part of this introduction explaining why I'm a loner and how no one can relate to me. See ya.

Alas we often get depressed,

and we tend to be reclusive,

oh, I guess I am not helping you with your individuality,

I will shut up

and welcome you.

Welcome Severus.

Don't worry all INTJs are unique in their own way. Welcome to the forum.

Vern, it's okay... I actually enjoy my individuality and reclusiveness, because it is only in the unique way that I think that I can be happy with myself. I was merely expressing the fact that I wish there were more people who thought in the same way. Neil Young expresses this sentiment effectively in his song "Old Man" with the lyric, "It doesn't mean that much to me, to mean that much to you." Basically it's saying that other people don't matter enough to change my thinking to accommodate others. I can't help the way I think. Some people think I'm a little abrasive, though I've taken this into account and usually just don't say anything so as not to annoy anyone.

And music221, thank you also for welcoming me to the forum... do you play guitar? I play the guitar (though I'm no master at it), and I sang in a jazz choir last year during my senior year of high school. I must say that playing music is, for me, one of the few things that allows me to relate to other people. This is because the music is just there, between the musicians, and I guess acts as a buffer between people who view things differently. Anyway, I wonder if people find it odd that I can go off on a tangent on pretty much anything. Oh well, take it easy.

Please do enjoy being yourself, and I encourage you to communicate and not be concerned with the emotions of others.

I could not help but to pick up on your youth, you are likely the same age as my daughter who is also one of us, and the reason I have joined and encouraged her to do the same. Speak here and let yourself be heard and read and enjoy yourself and your self exploration.

I've found knowing I was INTJ helped explain so much about my life (why I never fit in with the cheerleaders, for example). I was able to reframe a lot of the painful experiences in my past that never had made sense before.

I spent a lot of time studying the other types and how to identify them so that my communications with them were more productive. I also now take care of my need to spend time by myself, knowing how important it is.

Don't be depressed! Use you INTJishness and dwell happily in your uniqueness! This is no one else like YOU...YOU cannot be replaced, ever. Isn't that a nice thought!

As for the long windedness, well, that's just another trait in common. But it can be moderated with practice. And I'll prove it by being brief: WELCOME!

I found no references to either licorice or mathematics in your opening post. Are you having a bad day?

Have you read a lot of the threads here and found you cannot relate to them or are you just entering the forum with that thought already in your head?

Vern, thank you for the advice. I may have used poor word choice in my original post when I used the word "depressed." I certainly do enjoy being myself and do not worry what others think. I was just pointing out that I am disappointed sometimes because other people do not come to the same opinion or view that I do, and so I cannot relate to them. I guess this could be attributed to my ruthless application of logic to every aspect of life. For example, I will apply logical concepts to relationships, and just as 2+2=4 and always equals 4, I cannot fathom how anyone could come to a different conclusion about relational issues than I have. I guess I am trying to say that my opinions/views on things are not derived for personal benefit, but for the discovery of an objective truth. This, I believe, is one of my weaknesses, because even though I strongly believe this, I can still see how people can come to different opinions than me that are perfectly valid. After all, differing opinions are great for debate and discussion. So anyway, I went off on a tangent again when I simply meant to thank you, Vern, for your advice.

Music221, what kinds of music do you like? My favorites are classic rock, jazz, and classical, but I like pretty much everything. The Rolling Stones, Neil Young, and Tom Petty rock... the list could go on, but I'll spare you that.

Also, Azelismia, I would have to say that I entered the forum with that thought already in my head. This, I would have to say, is because I guess I've had very few encounters with other INTJs in my life, and so the multitude of them that I saw here on this site was disproportionate to what I had seen outside of the internet. However, I will rid myself of the notion that the people on this site can't relate to me, and I will enter the forums with an open mind.

Also, for anyone who is wondering, my name is not actually Severus. If you ask me perhaps I shall explain why I chose that nickname... hopefully no one will think me too much of a nerd afterwards. Anyway, I look forward to hearing from you guys.

Does your name allude to a Roman emperor, or is your last name Snape?

Wow, an INTJ who appears abrasive?! Never heard of such a thing...that's just crazy talk. I suppose they also think you are arrogant (which is also totally absurd for an INTJ). So, today, we are not voting you off the island. Please stay and eat worms.

Welcome, Severus!

Sorry I'm so late; I've been busy the last several days. It seems you've made yourself at home though, which is good.

If you're sticking around, you can check out the rules here, and a great thread about using all the neat forum features is here.

Please, enjoy!
