Judging by the CO2 (Crappy Opinion) levels and all that, I'd say roughly...adding in the estimated posters per day and figuring in the square of the hypotenuse of Party Dog...about 1 killed per day. *nods*

I second that. If you manage to come up with a concise definition, I just might create a formula that would calculate the number of threads killed on an average day.

By "killed" I mean:

No new posts have been uploaded if 48 hours has passed after the last post (that is, if you look at "Last Post" it will say "xx-xx-xxxx by xxxx" not something like "Today ... by" or "Yesterday ... by."). If you look at the second page of the Lounge you will see plenty of these. Based on my observations, I think it's safe to say that the thread gets killed once 48 hours is gone.

Of course, I am open to improving my definition because my experience is not everything.

Using this forumla, could you (Night Runner) also include in the formula to determine who is the Forum's "Thread Slayer"??

[With Survivor finished and Coach "The Dragonslayer" gone from our households, I think we need some type of "Slayer" around. Not sure if my Buffy DVD collection will be enough]

I used to moderate a site (still do part-time) and at our peak I'd say several dozen a day. There was just a constant stream of new threads (on the exact same topic) being started by newbies who couldn't be bothered to search for their information.

It really is a downward spiral that's hard to avoid. Threads on a subject can get SO long that people can't be expected to comb through every post to find all pertinent information, so they start a new thread. Then once it gets addressed and bumped down by all the other questions, it requires that much more time to go looking for the info again. A large part is also clueless-ness/laziness but I digress...

As to deleting threads, we tried to avoid it even if they were already answered questions so not so often there.

Here I'd guesstimate about 1 maybe 2 dozen tops just drift off into nothingness, but that's probably more so due to the sheer number of different ideas and thoughts being generated as opposed to questions on a specific topic. Its also a smaller community...I think... (not anymore though, lol site's pretty much dead, trying to make a comeback though).
