My mother tongue is Lithuanian. I'm studying English and German at school but I have only read a few English books. It's pretty difficult to get an interesting English book to read. I usually have to buy them. Unfortunatelly, they cost more than the Lithuanian ones. My knowledge of the German language isn't sufficient for reading books in the original language but I put much effort to learn the language properly.

My mother tongue is German, I enjoy reading books in English and just the other day I tried to read "War and Peace" in Russian (I've learned Russian at school for 7 years)... well... at least I gave it a try.
I do have some books in Latin (I learned Latin at school as well), but I haven't tried to read them yet. |

I've read Swedish author Herman Lindqvist's 'Napoleon' and 'Revolusjon' (history of the French Revolution). Have also read Snorre Sturleson's 'Heimskringla'.And a boatload of technical papers and translated novels including LOTR, all in the same language.

I read Madame Bovary for my French class. I also prefer to read manga in the original Japanese.

I prefer to read books in their original language if possible. I've read Stephen King, J.K. Rowling, Margaret Atwood, Charles Dickens, Herman Melville, William Shakespeare, Ernest Hemingway, John Steinbeck, Roald Dahl, Neil Gaiman and many many others in English. I've had difficulties with Susanne Clark's Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, but I don't know why that is.
I like to read children's books. My Swedish isn't very good, but I've managed to read Astrid Lindgren in Swedish. I just love The Brothers Lionheart and Ronia the Robber's Daughter. I've also read some children's books in Greek, but I've forgotten the names. My French is poor, but with a dictionary I've read latest Milan Kundera's novels and some poems from Verlaine, Baudelaire and Apollinaire. The biggest miracle is that I was able to use Heidegger's Sein Und Zeit in German, which I've never studied. I needed it for my graduation work. Not that I read it thoroughly. We have this wonderful book of poems: To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. . It includes hundreds of poems in their original language and there's a Finnish tranlation beside them. |

I read it a long time ago. Thought it was interesting how they (the Nordmen) viewed life (and death) and that for much of the year Vikings were farmers. After awhile the histories seemed to blend into one another - too many Haralds. I do remember thinking how ironic it was that Christianity was introduced to Norway by Olav the Holy at sword point. |

A local church here is offering free Greek lessons that I have started attending. It would be interesting to read the Greek New Testament, although I'm thinking this will be more for my own exegesis than reading entire books in Greek. |

Quite a bit of Dumas père in French.
Vingt ans après repaid the effort. |
