But you didn't wright it down. It's pretty much the same thing as when someone takes someone else's idea, copyrights it, then makes a bunch of money off of something that they ripped off of a gullible person. The only difference is what I said wasn't funny, it just gave me an opening to make a point.

Originality ensues!

Hdier, ellipses. Sometimes omitting something is better than blurting it out loud. You could've left it at that, but you didn't, hence it was less funny.

On the other hand, if someone said... "somewhere in the world right now there is someone who is smarter than you and you know it", that would ruffle my feathers.

really? i'm pretty much banking on it, myself. i'm no slouch, but if there weren't someone smarter than me, i'd be bored. often.

on the subject of insults, though, i'm not too squishy, and i generally don't bother. either the moment passes before i think of a good one, or the good ones i come up with are too harsh for the audience.

i can think of exactly one time when timing and wit combined properly, and i let one fly in public.

i was working in the graphics department of a company that had several different functions too diverse to explain quickly. i was laying a vinyl graphic on a 15'x15' sign out in the company's shop/warehouse area.

i was cranky, because earlier that day, the newish receptionist had left sitting for hours a delivered item that i needed right away, and as a result, i was way behind schedule. i reamed her for it, though i said nothing unprofessional. i was also cranky because it was 90 degrees out there, and i was having to crawl around in kneepads in front of a bunch of sexist asshats who were hanging around on break.

the receptionist came out to the shop area to smoke and sees me crawling around on this sign while i'm working. angry from that morning, and looking to embarrass me in front of the guys, she sneered at me and said, "what are you doing down there on your knees?"

i said, "i'm studying to be a receptionist."

It's utterly happy to see that, each insult proves again Einstain's_stupidity_theory:
"Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former. "

Only if you insult my honor do I get truly upset. Questioning my personal integrity is off-limits. Most other insults roll off like water off a duck's back.

I know. I was not attempting to be funny. I was attempting (and succeeding) to give myself an opening to make the point that I made. Also, I wanted to make sure that everyone new how cheesy the joke was.

Insulting morals...the worst thing you could do to try and insult me. I just laugh in people's faces if they do that, as I know that my morals are strong and they won't be broken (by me).

Generally speaking, roommates have the exactly opposite effect on thinking.

"Wouldn't it be great if we turned this room into a Faraday cage?"

I don't really get all that ruffled by insults...but then again, I have to say that I don't often get insulted. I don't think this is for any reason other than the fact that I've been lucky enough to not have enemies.

When I do get insulted, though, it usually only really bothers me if the person told me I'm not good at something that means a lot to me. In all cases, I make sure to show that I am completely indifferent to what that person said, or I casually point out why they're wrong without addressing the fact that they were trying to insult me.

I take it you like reading Kant's books? He used "cogitate" instead of think and that kind of things all the time. I love his vocabulary.

I'm actually not very good at insulting others, because I insult them in the ways that would hurt me most-- by calling them stupid or closed-minded or superficial. And it seems like what insults me doesn't really bother others so much. They seem more concerned with being called ugly or bitchy or slutty.

On the other hand, it's hard for others to insult me at all. If I don't respect them professionally or personally, I don't care one whit what they think of me.

I've always had a knack for playfully insulting others, especially girls. I've gotten in trouble a few times, though, when I offended

someone because of what I said. So now I try not to say anything the slightest bit insulting until I know the person well. I will never ever understand some people's sense of humor.

As a kid, I was very sensitive to what others said to me, but now I could care less. Only a serious insult from somebody I respect would affect me, and I don't think that has ever happened.

The only insults I get are here on this forum due to the fact that it is easy to insult people one has never met (and these individuals make their statements on assumption, not knowledge). I rarely insult anyone excepting these two during the last year: one person blocked my driveway with his car and another nearly broke my daughter's heart.

Yes I agree :D The main reason personal insults don't bother me is because well... as mentioned before, no one knows where my weaknesses are. If they tell me: You're a failure of a human being. and/or You lost to XXX in last week's audition, and you expect to win this one? It'd probably piss me off royally. The people I'm around are quite nice and the worst insults I've ever come across in my life is: You're ugly (Honestly, do I care? I have a handful of people telling me otherwise, true or not) Repeated insults don't get to me, but I do find them irritating. ("Hahaha. That was stupid. You were stupid to do that. Why were you sooooooo stupid?" - Says someone) Once is enough. On the other hand, if they insult the ones I care about, I might just flare up.

I suppose that it depends if they hurt them or not. If it doesn't bug the people I care about, then it wouldn't bother me either.
