What's your favorite kind of music that seems to project an introverted feel? I know some people are terrible at figuring that out (because many musicians have to be up-front and energetic, otherwise no one would listen to them), but you can often tell, as lyrical content and how they act outside of their flamboyant persona.
My favorites would be Tool, NIN, and Bob Dylan. That's a huge stretch between Tool and Bob Dylan, but I like both. Tool is quite introverted (Maynard is INTP, Jones is INTJ, Carey is something E, actually, and Chancellor is INTP) and it is reflected in songs like "H." and "Jambi" (the former I can relate to, even if it's horribly depressing), and NIN seems to be on the same page as me with songs like "Somewhat Damaged" (another song I can relate to, along with many others). I could go on forever about why I like them, but I'm not asking that... To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. |

Well, when I'm truly embracing my introversion, I tend to listen to trip-hop and trance music (electronica) on the one hand or the blues on the other.

I agree with Franklin, I listen to trance/electronica when I want to relax. Otherwise, the band Wolf Parade, if I were to give it an MBTI type, would be INxx. I sometimes enjoy listening to them as well.
Otherwise, I actually enjoy dancing, so I don't pay much attention to lyrics. |

Oh man, BIG agreement with Wolf Parade.
Sufjan Stevens always has a kind of quiet introspection that makes for some lovely alone time. As for actually literally introverted, by the lyrics, I just wrote down The Busy Signals' "Headphoneworld" in the "lyrics of your life" thread. That one works really well. Her Space Holiday is fantastic for introverts. So's +/-. IDM is like, the best genre in the world, for introverted electronica lovers. Herbert and Cornelius are some favorites, there. |

Trance is good for zoning out. Like Bach for that too. Used to listen to groups like Haddaway before 'that' movie came out. Now I just use my headphones and try not to do the head movement.
Right now I am really into some Ryuichi Sakamoto & Morelenbaum. The Casa album. Something about Sem Voce just speaks to me. A piano, violin, and a beautiful female voice. Cannot understand what the singer is saying. But the way she sings it. Personally I think that INTJ because I don't care what she has to say. Just enjoy the sound of her voice. |

Muse.
I'd say Matt Bellamy is extremely introverted. |

Something For Kate - an Australian rockish band. Their music can be really depressing, but definitely fit the bill for 'introverted' music.

I didn't even knew theres music for Introverts and Extroverts.
Anyway, I like music in general, I just -friggin- love it. Exceptions may be folklorical musical like Country, celt and similar stuff, but i live for music anyway. The genre I most like is Rock and Metal, mainly England's bands and American ones. |

I tend to enjoy ambient music when I wish to spend some time in my head.

Syd Barrett and Nick Drake come to mind. I listen to their stuff when I take long walks by myself. Suits the mood. I'm told that if you concentrate hard enough on the songs you'll hallucinate that you're feeding candied apples to unicorns.
I listened to Tool throughout most of my early adolescence. Now that you mention it, it makes a lot of sense that Maynard and Adam are introverted NTs. I really should start listening to Tool again. I've become more of a hippie over the years. Bah. |

Ah, trip-hop. The first time I listened to that genre it was like a new experience in music. Nothing like it before. |

Bob Dylan is good in any situation, for any person, under any circumstance. "I try my best to be just like I am, but everybody wants you to be just like them." I'd be shocked if less than 80 percent of the posters here couldn't relate to that line, considering how much emphasis a lot of us put on intuitiveness. I don't know if I'd say the same about "In a soldier's stance, I aimed my hand at the mongrel dogs who teach, fearing not I'd become my enemy in the instant that I preached," though.
Zeppelin, I presume? I couldn't disagree there, although personally (not necessarily musically) they seem to have an extraverted feel to me. But then again, I could easily see Page and Jonesy being introverts. |

There's really one song that pops into mind: River Man by Nick Drake.

Anything without words works for me. Some classical music is okay, but movie soundtracks are the best. Some of my favorites include tacks from Amelie, Requiem for a Dream and anything by John Williams.

Classical: I would suggest Chopin's Nocturne in E Minor, Op. 72, No. 1.
Other: Songs by Damien Rice. |

I love a not so well-known irish singer called Adrian Crowley. He writes really dreamy, soporific (in a good way) songs. |

Looks like INTJs can't agree on what's best. Of course we all know that we are right but this is where our age might surface. As you may have expected I would assert the high intensity riffs of Jerry. Check out his versions of Dylan's "I Shall be Released", "Serve Somebody", and "Tangled Up in Blue" to name a few.

Thanks, that's probably one of the few "typings" I think I nailed. As for what everyone else likes, that's interesting. I prefer listening to music with words as well as some with ambience, now that I think about it. One of my favorite NIN songs is just quiet noise, "A Warm Place" from The Downward Spiral. I like light jazz and some classical, like Bach and Chopin, less "energetic" music if you will instead of something like Vivaldi that carries a lot of energy to it. I also like music that either carries a strange malice for some reason or is melodic and technical. Quite odd, but that would explain why I have diverse music tastes. |

NIN, Trapt, MuDvAyNe, Rise Against, 30 Seconds to Mars, Three Days Grace.
They all put a lot of thought into their songs and have an introverted quality. |

Nevermore is probably my favorite stereotypically introverted band.
However, I am a huge fan of power metal (the ballsy kind, not the flowery Rhapsody/Sonata Arctica bullshit), and I've noticed that while all of it sounds fairly boisterous and "out there," there is definitely a dichotomy between the introspective and extraverted power metal. Some of the more extraverted power metal bands seem to be Iron Maiden and Blind Guardian, both of which I'm fairly fond of. A couple of the introverted power metal bands I listen to are The Lord Weird Slough Feg and Persuader. I absolutely LOVE those two, especially the former. SikTh is a great introverted band, if for the sole reason that if you listen to them with speakers, people BACK THE HELL AWAY! :D |
