I went to two proms. The first one was pretty boring and awful...and I looked amish because of my hair and the zoot suit. The second one was fun and much more relaxed, and I looked like a badass because of my kilt. I don't regret either because I learned from both experiences.

I wasn't in high school during the years of "prom" etc.

Mom forced me to go, had a date, was bored out of my freaking mind. Sad to say another day wasted by silly social traditions.

how many INTJs here actually went to their high school prom? if you did go, did you enjoy it or wish you hadn't gone? if you didn't go, do you regret it?

I didn't go to junior or senior prom.

Long-winded explanations ahead...

Cost - Just the ticket is $50 (hello, new video game). Plus a dress, which are obscenely expensive. Plus shoes, which I would never wear again.

Inconvenience - Having to go shopping - with whom? I don't have any girly friends to do this with, and even if I did it doesn't sound like fun. I hate trying clothes on. Then I'd have to figure out what to do about my nails and hair and makeup, which everyone else either has done professionally (ew, why would I went to spend money to get that done for one night?) or has one of their girly friends to do (have none of those).

Date - Didn't have a boyfriend during junior prom and didn't have anyone to go with. I don't care what anyone says, nothing about standing there by yourself while everyone else dances with their dates sounds fun to me. I had a boyfriend (sort of...getting there) for senior prom but he's long-distance. And he doesn't dance anyway, that'd be a waste.

Dancing - Another thing. I don't dance. I have plenty of experience with standing around on the fringe of middle school dances. I don't imagine it would be very enjoyable in high school, either.

The point - Everyone else goes to prom for a little while - shows up late and leaves early to go party somewhere else. They all go get completely shitfucked, people are throwing up and peeing all over the place... Even those who go to tamer parties have boy/girl sleepovers, and my parents would never go for that. (Also I don't lie to my parents.)

Nothing about prom attracted me, basically. And it's cool.

For junior prom, my friend and I went out to eat with all of the prom people, then we went home and chilled. This year, two of my friends and I went swimming, played video games, watched tv, stuffed our faces with pizza and chips, and then played basketball in the middle of the night. It was way more fun than I would've had otherwise.

I can't give you a definitive answer on how I'll feel about it in 20 years, but right now I'm totally cool with it.

I never made it to prom. Because during my junior year I got more or less insulted by a teacher who wouldn't even acknowledge the possibility that the U.S.A. is an Oligarchy. (I stand by that statement to this day). So honestly I walked in to school the next day with my anti-establishment loving dad who was proud of my choice to drop out of school. There of course were other instances that spurred my reason for wanting to drop out. But by the time the senior prom for my grade came around the next year I had my G.E.D. and was enrolled in college. So since I never went to prom any of the previous years, I never went at all
