My name is Taylor and I live in the wonderful Midwest deadlands of the United States. We have flat land and corn here, and the occasional coma-inducing tornado. I'm a junior in college at a tiny private university, studying to become a computer programmer. I AM A FEMALE (the assumption is always the opposite when I meet people online--in person I am very clearly a woman, I promise.)

Anyways, I'm just here because lately I've been feeling kind of like a loser for being pretty much the only college student I know who doesn't spend every night out getting hammered and having sex. I stay home most of the time because I do genuinely enjoy my own company more than that of most others', but I don't know...sometimes I get kind of down on myself. What kind of a freak chooses to stay in her basement apartment watching BSG and working through a stack of library books rather than going out to enjoy the rest of the world?

Hopefully some of you guys.

One other tiny tidbit about me is that I sleep polyphasically. I'm currently on the Uberman sleep schedule, meaning I get about 2 hours of sleep per every 24. I'd post a link, but as this is my first post it's telling me I can't. Go and use some Google magic if you're interested in finding out more. People always seem really interested in hearing about this, and I also wanted to explain why you'll probably see me on excessively and at odd hours--22 hours of wake time a day can lead to a severe lack of things to do, so I get hyper-vigilant about checking forums to which I've posted. I promise I do other things besides lurk on places like this!

Erm....yeah, so, I guess that's all for now. Hopefully I'll get to know some of you soon!

Hello, welcome to the pasture. As far as I know, we all feel like we suck at this initial blind introduction process. It is actually kinda fun..lol when you are not number one...on this thread anyway.

Welcome! I am pretty new myself and found this place awesome. Always new topics to to look at. Oh, never feel down on yourself for not being like others. You must find internal happiness before you can expect other people to accept you and yes it is hard. I am also in college but going into my six year, luckily I graduate in December, but I used to feel the same way. Just keep thinking with positive vibes and life will be good.

Hihi! I'm pretty new too, just graduated from college myself. You'll get your post count up soon. :P Currently an east coaster but heading to the midwest later this year! Not too excited for those tornadoes...

You know what i have found concerning losers? They have no clue they are a loser. They never give it a moments thought. In fact they have an an aversion to even the suggestion that they have less than winning qualities. So cheer up sounds like you are in the clear...lol
Of course this is all just my humble opinion.

So losers are like crazy people? Well, I'm slightly reassured, thanks!

If the real losers don't know they're losers, what does that make the people who think they are losers?

Holy shit, you're on the uberman? You have just earned infinity kudos in my book. I've been toying around with the idea for a long time, simply because if I started the uberman now, and lived for another 60 years, I would gain 15 bonus years by not sleeping as much. The only reason I haven't done it is it would put me out of sync with everyone I know, and it's really rigid. The temptation is incredible.

Also, being a female-programmer-book-reader on the uberman sleep schedule makes you a winner in my book.

Welcome to the forum :D.

Haha, I accept your infinite kudos the the humblest of gratitude. Yeah, Uberman is definitely rigid as hell, especially during the first month, but after that you get a bit more flexibility. Have you heard of the SPAMAYL schedule? That's actually a bit closer to what I'm on now since I don't have set times for naps and can shuffle them around no problem.

Even so, it's still inconvenient at times to have a schedule that's so different from the rest of society's. Being a loner and a pseudo-hermit with few obligations outside of class actually really works to my advantage in that regard.

I suck at introductions, but...

if you're sucking... you've skipped right past introductions and moved straight to 3rd base. nope... you're not another shy lurker are you?

sorry, the censor button in my brain is broken. don't take me seriously here ever.

and WOW! about that 22 hours thing. it doesn't cause you stress?

If the real losers don't know they're losers, what does that make the people who think they are losers?

uhhhhhhh... WANNABES!

welcome to the forum... your self deprecating remarks are moot here. we're all kinds of outsider in here and pretty much ignore "flaws" in others. you're among many just like you and many very different too here. this is where you can just be yourself and nobody even notices the quirks because we're all just emotionless robots except for the emotional robot groupies. LOL

any time you're feeling sarcastic or like playing word games, see ya in the game room. if you're feeling mathematical. there's rooms for that too. i skirt by those doors quick myself. those cats creep this artist out man, i mean WOman. you feel all warm and fuzzy now? wait until the sausage party when all of the guys catch scent of geek pheromone.

have fun, make new friends, make new enemies that'll go away when you give them the stare and mark your territory. it's all good. i wish i found here decades ago. when you find your areas of interest or even disinterest if your masochism runs deep and knows no bounds, you'll fit right in, and make new friends. we ALL like rational people here, even the creepy goths in full daylight anyways.

No, I was referring to the gonorrhea epidemic around these parts...though feel free to start a slow clap in my honor at any time.

Actually, I wouldn't refer to anyone as a loser. That would imply that they had something at one time, but lost it. I am pretty sure the people I consider to have less than admirable qualities, never had them to begin with. I like win, win, personally. Some people would prefer anyone lose but themselves. Just one more reason I appreciate my incredible friends. On and off line.

<smile>

my definition of loser...

a nihilist who's lost the ability to empathize and simply seeks high social standing
SEE ALSO: "winner"

i think the whole winners & losers scale is backwards
