It could also be worth mentioning that I don't really give a shit about lyrics. When I listen to music, I listen to music, not poems.

Well that definitely makes a big difference in taste, and I tend to be the same way, valuing music itself more than lyrics. But, when you're directly comparing musicians and rappers, it's disingenuous to say that the latter takes no dedication/skill/passion or that anybody could do it. DJing / producing is similar. While anyone can jump right in and make their own tracks, it's going to take a lot of practice to catch up to the level of skill in the people who do it best. And if you listen to the instrumentals, there's some great stuff in the music, period. It's not Beethoven, but it's not trying to be.
